Last week, Marvel announced its plans to launch "AvX: Versus," a series set to run side-by-side with its event of the year, "Avengers Vs. X-Men." Now, the publisher has provided CBR News with an exclusive first look at artist Adi Granov's teaser for the highly-anticipated clash, featuring the Armored Avenger Iron Man tackling the Mutant Master of Magnetism: Magneto!

In Stark's favor: he's made (in at least one What If...?) comic anti-Magneto armor (with its own magnetic fields that "countered" his), and I think at least one of his Stealth Suits is made from non-metallic ceramic composites. Stark has resisted EMPs, when he had his Extremis and could directly interface with/'force reboot' his armor's systems, and since his suit's OS is in his mind now, an EMP may not do anything more to Stark's armor than it would to your or my own nervous system.

In Magneto's favor: Magneto gave Jean Grey a fatal stroke by channel a super-EMP into her brain (though most people don't talk about that). Also, his powers have been repeatedly shown to be more than just manipulating magnetic energy/ferrous metals. He's messed with blood (despite hemoglobin beings diamagnetic/repulsed by wither end of a magnet), he's warped light (part of the EM spectrum) to make himself invisible and focused it into a potent laser, and he's (somehow) used magnetism to open wormholes (manipulating gravity via magnetism = he is the Unified Field Theory?). And even if he can't directly affect Stark's armor, he can just lift stuff and throw it at him.

Though the last part would kinda depend on who sets the battleground. And in addition to "where" there's also "when," i.e., how much prep time does either have? Does Stark have enough time to whip up an Anti-Magneto device? Does Magneto have enough time to whip up an Anti-Stark device?

I think the current retcon is that that was Xorn pretending to be Mageneto, not the real deal.

And I think even Magneto would realise that straight-up murdering Avengers is not gonna help anything.

Maybe, if you're going to fight someone who controls all magnetism, building your defense strategy around a use of magnetism isn't a good idea.

My biggest beef has been that Magneto isn't called the master of magnetism just because of his power set. Mags is an amazing scientist and over the years many, many, many talented people have tried to beat him at the magnetism game and they have all failed. Magneto, on the fly, always figures out what their trick is and then counters it.

Its like trying to beat Beast or Mr. Sinister at genetic manipulation or Daredevil in a braille reading contest. Why would you do that to yourself?

Because Stark's ego is as big as the Hulk?

Magneto is a genius supervillain. Stark is a genius superhero. Magneto might probably beat him if he focuses on his speciality... Only for Stark to pull some other widget out of some unrelated branch of physics and fry him.
