Gail Simone on what's to come

An very insightful interview with Gail Simone on Newsarama concerning batgirl.

you can see it here, http://www.newsarama.com/comics/gail-simone-batgirl-cure-revelations-120111.html

Simone: Well, there's an unexpected date, some new neighbors of interest, including one who wants to be Batgirl, new villains, the return of an old one, the answers to the Oracle question, the back-story about her return to mobility, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Arkham, mom, a really unfortunate date, a BOP friend, pirates, a JLA guest star, the worst family reunion ever, muffins, the secret of her martial arts training, the answer to what really happened immediately after she was shot in the Killing Joke. And we're just getting warmed up.

Misfit anyone? my money is on Misfit :D
Also "The Answer to the Oracle Question" and a BoP Friend... and Worst Family Reunion ever. (James Jr?:)

Personal Thought: I know Snyder had James as Dick's archnemisis (his opposite, or Dark Mirror if you will :) but for some reason, i think he would make a better nemisis for Barbara... the good child and the dark child. Snyder showed him to be psychotic, but Brilliant! his whole scheme was imensely demented but shear genious. it would be interesting to have him be a villain for her... its probably not gonna happen but still.. :D

anyways some OH SO PRETTY Batgirl #6 cover art...

I don't know about anyone else, but I really want to know about the muffins.

Yes, it's the muffins that really grabbed me here. Are they blueberry? Apple-cinnamon? I have so many questions.

In her book-that-was-just-words-and-no-pictures book, Gail wrote that the secret to great comic book writing was to have superheroes eating food. Green Arrow slurping spaghetti, Superman chowing down on pizza? Instant acclaim.

On a more serious note, at first I wasn't all that keen on #7 with the retread of Killing Joke, but after hearing Gail talk about it, showing those events entirely from Barbara's perspective...okay, that could definitely be an interesting story.

"Truthfully, part of it is basic stagecraft, hopefully. One positive aspect of the relaunch is that it's making people reconsider some habits that we had just come to accept from comics over the years — primarily the idea that every story would be in a collection at one point, so there wasn't the same need to present individual issues as enjoyable on their own. I admire the Marvel "What Went Before" pages; we're trying to do something like that, but in story, as painlessly as possible."

I've been noticing this. Snyder does this also on Batman, with Bruce always reminding the reader in his narration what happened in the previous issues. On one hand, I appreciate what they're doing. On the other, it's kinda taking up space to do it this way.

Especially since the page count is down.

I'm still not buying someone well into her twenties still being 'Bat-GIRL'.

They could have easily made a new Bat identity.

Elastigirl disagrees!

Actually, who's older, Kate Kane or Barbara?

*snork* It's surely no worse than Congresswoman Batgirl ... that was always a bit dissonant for me. Congressgirl, Batwoman, who are you?

A new Bat identity? They just made one recently for Cass - of course, it's gone now - but clearly it can be done. But the whole point of making Barbara Batgirl again was to have that character back in that specific, iconic role. Personally, I'd rather have left Babs as Oracle and Steph as Batgirl, but I think DC was pretty clear about what they wanted this to be.

Oh, BTW, the legal scan there is the cover for #6, not #5.

I have nothing to contribute to this other than that I think Gail Simone's twitter feed should be made into a comic.

Not for much longer, apparently. He's off after about issue six, apparently, but Simone's been on about finding a more consistent cover artist.

Martial Arts Training? The nuDC Richard Dragon, perhaps?

Maybe with his best pupil, Renee?

I'd hope the neighbor who wants to be Batgirl is Steph (or Cass, but Steph strikes me as the one who more likely would want to be Batgirl again), just so that she still exists somewhere, but, really, I'm still not reading it or any of the new DCU whether she is or not, so I guess it doesn't really matter (aside from hoping that people who do want to read it are happy).

Misfit? Awesome!! :D

Though I would be okay with both either Steph or Cass too...but Misfit, as a Gail Simone character, seems to fit the M.O. better.

Gorgeous cover! I have to say cover art seems to be one of the best things about comics nowadays. :)
