I always found it interesting that in recent years, the covert ops world of the DC US is pretty much run by black people.

Bones, The Wall, Mr. Terrific (in Checkmate, pre-reboot). About the only exception is Spysmasher, and she wasn't in their league.

The Wall doesn't open doors, she busts the motherfuckers down and makes them sorry for being there.

Pre DCnU, no argument. The current Wall looks a little... dainty for that to be such a plausible mental image.

She is still The Wall, and small artistic changes doesn't change decades of badassery and the fact more will come. Shes always been my favourite Spy World contact over the others.

And not just DC. What about Marvel's Ultimate and cinematic universes?

Other than Nick Fury, who else is big in their covert world?

The Ultimate Universe has basically only had Carol Danvers on hand in light of Nick Fury disappearing into the Supreme-verse. And then Millar had her get hit by a car because he's a misogynistic little fucker.

The movie Fury's obviously got the Black Widow on his speeddial, and Maria Hill as backup in the upcoming movie. But whilst they don't count as POC, they're at least women, which is somewhat refreshing, I guess, given they could've just thrown Dugan in there for the usual buddy-buddy with Nick.

When and where did Carol get hit by a car?

It was, I believe, during Millar's Ultimate Avengers Volume 4 - the Death of Spider-Man tie-in series he did.

I'm assuming Ultimate Carol doesn't have super powers and was thus actually injured (or worse) by said car? Sigh, Carol Vs Car is usually a fun thing...

Hey pretty Famke icon.

Ult Carol has no superpowers, no. She wasn't killed as far as I know, but the mini was far too busy concentrating on stuff that Bendis was doing way, way better in Ultimate Spider-Man.

And yes, Famke as Xenia Onatopp is the prettiest.

Mr. Bones is black?

Come to think of it, this is the first time I can recall seeing him with non-white bones.

He had a brief "normal" appearance in Manhunter--can't remember if it was something that made his flesh visible, or make-up. (IIRC, his race was even commented on.)

And speaking of which, how about a Batwoman-Manhunter team-up? KATES KICKING ASS TOGETHER s'il vous plaƮt.

It was established back in the 1980's that he was black. His skin is actually transparent (and laced with a permanent, and completely lethal, cyanide compound he basically sweats from ever pore all the time), but an experimental device used to check him out physically when he was Infinity Inc showed his skin as it would appear normally, and he was black.

And yes, his bones used to be standard white, not grey like here. Of course he also used to ALWAYS speak in rhyme, and his suddenly appearing as head of the DEO was something of a "WTF?" moment, since nothing in any of his past experiences suggested he had any talent for espionage, and it certainly seemed unlikely anyone would trust him in such a role after his time as a criminal.

I knew he had invisible flesh & organs (and vaguely remembered the cyanide touch), I'm just surprised DC made him non-WASP, since that seems to be how they try to make everyone.

It's a nice little scene IIRC. He's brought in and the device is used to make his organs visible so he can be checked for internal injuries. The doctor in charge was the short-lived black, female Dr Mid-Nite (who was completely blind in anything other than complete darkness). Someone asks, as the organs (including the skin) phase into view if she was aware that Mr Bones was black, and her only reply is "Well, a significant portion of the world is" and the matter is neve raised again.

I believe I do have the issue in question somewhere about the place, though it may require some archaeological excavations to find it. :)
