Linda Danvers was Kara's Silver Age alter-ego. Then came Matrix in the 90s when DC decreed Kara never existed and Supes was the ONLY Kryptonian. Matrix was then merged with human Linda Danvers (the name was a homage to the Silver Age Kara who at this point never existed) who become the star of Peter David's run on Supergirl that lasted 80 issues (and except for a brief cameo or two hasn't been seen or mentioned since). Then came Cir-El (less said the better) and then they brought back Kara Zor-El as if she was an entirely new character (even though she had appeared at the end of Peter David's run alongside Linda and had also appeared in the Superman vs. Darkseid: Apokolips Now one-shot). Now with the reboot we get Kara appearing for the FIRST time (though really it's something like the third or fourth time DC has intro-ed the same character).
