I don't know. Didn't they start discovering Tim's bruises and stuff around the same time he and Steph started dating? If she was (in their eyes,) the only new thing in his life, I think it'd make sense that they'd worry about her being behind the bruises.

Then again, not really changing the fact that Jack is not exactly a shining example of fatherhood.

It still seems really bullshitty and in keeping with the crap Willingham later dumped on Steph, to me - I mean, sure, it's perfectly plausible that a girl could be beating up on Tim, but that's the first conclusion to jump to? Not that Tim could be, I don't know, being bullied or something along those lines?

And the setup here doesn't help at all. They go from 'Tim's hiding stuff' to 'that girl had a baby out of marriage and is clearly a bad influence!!!' in the space of a panel. I mean, yes, it would be shocking if someone as young as Stephanie had a baby, but they aren't in full possession of the facts, and as such, it's disgustingly judgemental and piles assumption after assumption onto Steph like she's got a history of rape, murder and thievery.

Again, to me it reads like some sort of shitty, fucked up PSA that plays with Willingham's political stances, and the 'Do you think Tim's still a virgin' is just the icing on the cake; Willingham runs a veritable gauntlet of bullshit, here; Teenagers hiding things from their parents is BAD (even though we ALL did it, and we all know our parents did too). Kids out of wedlock? BAD. Not a virgin? BAD.

I was thinking less "Steph is beating up Tim" and more "the guy who got Steph pregnant is beating up Tim."

Heh, obviously they never met Dean. I thought that it was along the lines of "She got pregnant while unmarried, therefore she's irresponsible and likely to get Tim involved in drugs, crime and other things poor people get up to".
