What could be better for the little tykes than turning your hero into one of the undead (Click on the image to see the full cover)

That stare can see into your very soul.... and suck it dry!

A quick recap

Well, I said it was quick....

Sabrina has called on the powers of darkness (I assume) to deal with Zombie Archie... and ends up with...

"My comic has a Zombie Archie Andrews being blasted by magical energy from the enchanted guitars of KISS.... your argument is invalid"

The alternate cover is actually kind of creepy cool, in a cheesy sort of way... And that's actually rather a frightening Archie.

ANOTHER CROSSOVER?
I mean really?
Bwahahahaha! XD

Archie's really trying a lot lately, a gay marriage, a classic character dying of a cancer...and now this!
I'm all up for more mature stories and being relevant and all... but Archie? Really?

And I see it even contains the bonus ZOMBIES! thrown into the mix of this crossover for good measure :P
Smells like a pure marketing move $$$

I think you're sort of conflating two very different comics into one.

The cancer and the gay marriage are parts of a distinct "What if..." scenario series, and those events are non-canonical.

And I think my reaction to them is not "Why is Archie doing such things?" so much as "Why aren't other comic companies doing such things?"

I don't read any Archie, but I do appreciate their "throw it on the wall and see what sticks" approach.

Maybe so, but it's a marketing move made by Kiss. The band's PR Manager approached Archie Comics about a collaboration, not the other way around.
Personally, I'd rather have a comic company that's not afraid to try new and unexpected things, rather than retreating to familiar grounds over and over again.
