Well technically she has two birthdays, January 26th and whenever the American version of Father's Day is, but since I don't know when that is, Happy Birthday Cass! Yay!

Hm, since I'm on a JLElite kick at the moment, I probably should post the bit where Cass and Coldcast get stranded in a Lovecraftian shadow dimension, and to survive Cass has to hunt and eat the only other living things around.

The Lovecraftian beasties comprised of living darkness.

I think my favorite Cass Cain moments (of which there are many) are split between the time when all out to defend the life of a criminal (I don't think she succeeded) and when she told the little boy with the criminal father (AKA like her) that no - its not going to be OK but he doesn't have to let that define him. For someone who unlike everyone else in the Bat-family (Bruce, Tim, Dick) whose parents are DEEEEAADDD, Cass shows you can have living parents and still have the ultimate tragic backstory and the will to overcome.

You realize that at the time this was published, Steph and Tim both had living parents, right? (Not to mention Babs, for all that Jim wasn't probably her biological father.)

I say this as a huge fan of the "awesome kids of evil parents" concept, but evil or at least woefully inadequate parents aren't too hard to come by in fiction.

Flash Fact: In the US (and several other countries,) Father's Day isn't on a fixed date. It's on the third Sunday of June.
