The Anti-Legion is Geoff Johns' Justice League. His Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes was about how some rejects worked on their abilities in the subs and how some turned to villainy. All because the legion never learned tact

And "you've got to forgive him, he doesn't mean to be such a jerk". That's not how you make people feel better, sweetie. First off you start by saying "he's wrong", and then you may go on to defend your friend.

I find it especially annoying because how does he NOT mean to be a jerk with those comments? I think you can be a jerk without realizing it (being insensitive or too curt, for example), but what he said was deliberately hurtful, there's no other way of looking at it. If I were his friend I'd be pretty disgusted by his behavior.

These were some of the earliest Legion I bought, though I started on the main title in the early days of v4. Sprouse's art dazzled me. Then I went out and bought all the older Legion work.

This storyline with Cera as the new Empress was never resolved, IIRC.

Sadly, no it wasn't, this arc ended with her being the only person ever to control (or be controlled by depending on POV) not AN Emerald Eye, but TWO Emerald Eyes (up until this arc the notion of a second one hadn't even been hinted at)

In the legion future (well this one anyways) is there any kind of rule against nonorganized heroing? Seems like the universe is a pretty big place, and a person could do a lot of good without the legion of snobs.

Inferno, I didn't have any respect for you in the first place (because, uh, I don't really know who you ARE, not being much of a Legion fan), but any chance of me acquiring any has now been lost. Good grief, man, do you not understand what a PIG you are being? If you MUST say things like that, say them under your breath, or to someone else after the meeting - saying them out loud in front of dozens of people is not only rude, it's practically a slap in the face. Live Wire isn't much better, but at least he actually had a reason to be slightly ticked off at her - a very, very, very MINOR reason, and not one that anyone with the slightest shred of decency would have taken advantage of, but still. Inferno, on the other hand, is beyond the pale. I hope he got offed in some highly karmically appropriate way.
Incidentally, am I correct in assuming that Saturn Girl and Cera knew each other prior to the meeting? They seem to have that vibe.
Oh, and Plaid Lad is classic. Completely useless, but classic nonetheless.

Would it really be so awful to have the girl being made fun of for being fat and pimply actually be fat and pimply? Cera is hardly even chubby and I took her blemishes for freckles at first. I know that insults can be and all too often are laid on people who don't actually qualify them, but come on. Inferno would be just as much of a jack in a hat if she looked as bad as his comments suggest.

I think I just watched the live-action analog of this in Showtime's "The Tudors" , where Henry and others go on about how ugly Anne of Cleves is and she's being played by Joss Stone! It's like don't ANY of these characters have eyes!

I like how the Legion's recruiting strategy is rejecting anyone who isn't fully-trained and having complete control of their powers. You can make the laws of physics bend over and call you mommy? Whatever, go work on that by yourself completely unsupervised.

I wonder, is the writer doing a good job or a bad job if he makes a villain sympathetic enough that I actually root for her against the heroes?

I was kind of surprised to see Ultra Boy shatter the eye back when this came out. I recall Mon-El bludgeoning it in an earlier story and it just sent the thing flying through space without causing any damage. Though they did keep the Empress-retains-a-residual-charge-when-separated-from-the-Eye point from that same story.
