I figure the beams know to stop shooting when he closes his own eyes or is preparing to. Whether is works like Havok and Cyclops having immunity to each others powers is a good question though. Course I doubt Cyclops would ever want to try blasting himself for fun to test if they hurt himself.

If I remember right, his hands can contain his blasts too, so one would assume he can't hurt himself.

Then again, his power has never really made much sense anyways. *shrug*
