It was mentioned before that Deathstroke's history with the Titans was wiped out by Flashpoint.
Here's how the story of his son Grant Wilson went down in the new continuity.
In the past...

Slade and Addie pushing Grant into becoming the Ravager is a huge change from the original storyline, where Slade tried keeping his mercenary life hidden from the rest of his family.
There's no mention of Joey (Jericho), but that doesn't mean he isn't there.

Deathstroke sees a huge explosion and it's assumed Grant is dead.
But in the present it's revealed that Grant is alive and well, and is working with the parents of one of the young mercenaries Deathstroke killed in #1, who want revenge for their daughter's death.

And getting rid of the Titans really screws up Nightwing's history.

Date: 2012-02-09 03:44 am (UTC)I wouldn’t put it past DC to erase him. Hell, I’ve been dreading it since this damn reboot was announced with the “some characters will no longer exist” crap. However I originally guessed Slade’s only kid would be Rose; now it seems Slade has his distaff counterpart daughter and probably just his mini-him son to cry about. I can see DC thinking it’s probably un-badass their favorite mercenary and fanboy crush had a very un-manly, (almost canonly gay but not so he wouldn’t fuel the sensitive gay artist stereotype) son. That and it would be too much work for (supposedly) professional artists to google the most basic ASL signs; goodness knows most of those poor men have enough trouble remembering how women’s spines and breasts work.*
For the past few years, Joey’s been one of those characters DC didn’t care about until they wanted someone to screw over. Case in point, the Deathtrap storyline and all those connected to it, how Joey was basically ignored by his closest friends when he wasn’t being an active threat to them (seriously did anyone mention looking for him post-BN?) or a plot-device for Slade to prove what a good father he is despite being a city-bombing, statutory rapist. Hell, some of his supposed closest friends weren’t that sympathetic to his last “CRAZY” predicament, including Raven who was his closest of friends/sorta love interest and had a hand in Joey’s first turn to evil/resurrection.
Basically, he’s the Titans’ white, effeminate male Cass Cain but not as popular and obviously with different unfortunate implications. If he truly is gone it’s a crying shame. On one hand I probably should be grateful since DC will no longer continue to screw with his character and do something with him just as horrible as they did with Starfire. Yet, it’s a damn cruel thing to do to him after all the crap DC put the character through. Also, DC practically owes him a freaking reboot after the said crap they put him through. ALSO, this would make yet another differently –abled hero DC has removed from their “diverse,” new 52 along with Oracle, Dr. Mid-Nite (Yes there will probably be one on Earth 2 but s/he won’t be part of DC’s new main universe that they have been pitching as “diverse”) and quite very possibly Oracle-in-training Proxy. And when will he even appear in anything DC comics-related again? DC also eliminates not only another aspect of Deathstroke’s character but also of the entire Wilson family. My hopes for seeing actual Joey and Rose sibling bonding and Joey and Addie’s close mother/son relationship are dwindling even more now.
So yeah… Jericho’s one of my favorite characters even with his hilariously ridiculous 80’s costume and muttonchops. Seeing how he was treated by DC for the past couple years has been really, really frustrating that him no longer existing is not that big of a surprise. I’m going to wait on what the Nu Wilson’s family status is a bit longer. If he is around, hopefully he’ll be written somewhat decently. If not… well, I’ll be saving money.
It appears Wintergreen’s gone, too. AND THIS ADDIE’S OKAY WITH THE ASSASSIN LIFE?!? *groans.* I also called Grant being alive and trying to kill Slade when the solicit for this issue came out…so not much shock there. Really, what was the point of eliminating Deathstroke’s Titans ties besides to screw with fans? EUGH I need to get some sleep...
*To be clear the last line was sarcastic.

Date: 2012-02-09 08:12 am (UTC)When was Joey "almost canonically gay"? He was so serially heterosexual it was almost a joke, and as for unmanly, he was probably the second best hand-to-hand fighter the Titans had.

Date: 2012-02-09 07:30 pm (UTC)You're kidding, right? Roy always talked a good game, but never had anything like a steady date until Donna.
Joey was very much a player, women flocked around him, and he had many, many happy relationships with many of them.
Unless player has another meaning I'm too old to be familiar with?

Date: 2012-02-09 01:55 pm (UTC)Oh believe me, I know that. He was trained by the same woman who trained his father (which is another thing DC's been ignoring about the Wilson family for quite awhile). When I meant "unmanly" I was referring to Joey not fitting traditional masculine traits, or being the sensitive artist type, which DC could've not taken very seriously and/or see it as something to be ridiculed. I've already seen parts of fandom call Joey things like "wimp" or "pansy" despite him being a capable fighter and a hero.
And Magus_69 pointed out what I meant by almost being gay in canon. Sorry for the confusion there.

Date: 2012-02-10 03:45 am (UTC)Marv Wolfman was slightly avaunt guard in that his captions for Joey were always in the third person instead of first person. We saw next to nothing in the way of actual signing; it was always either one of the Titans or a caption box telling us what he was saying to the others instead of showing it.

Date: 2012-02-10 01:34 pm (UTC)What they could also do with Joey in a more modernized way is have him communicate via texting ala Celty from Durarara!! or hell, use old fashioned paper and pencil. Some kind of communication system that stands out but works in the comic format.
