BATMAN ANNUAL #1

Written by SCOTT SNYDER
Art and cover by JAY FABOK
On sale MAY 30 • 48 pg, FC, $4.99 US • RATED T
• MR. FREEZE is introduced to The New 52!
• What is Mr. Freeze’s relationship to the COURT OF OWLS? Is he an ally – or do they want him dead?
• “NIGHT OF THE OWLS” continues here!

Looking forward to Snyder's version of Mr Freeze, from the sounds of things it may be more in line with the BTAS version than the regular comic's one, who is less of an anti-villain and more a crazy person who uses his wife as an excuse.

ALL-STAR WESTERN #9

Cover by LADRONN
On sale MAY 23 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T+

Another cool cover.

No Batman Inc though, but that's probably because it's not related to Night of Owls in some manner.

I doubt we're going there, either. Snyder is toying with elements of the background, but he's expressed no desire to drastically change the nature of the Wayne's death and other particular elements. To remove Alfred from play by making him a villain is something that would be a little too controversial, probably - Especially given today's audience in comics.

You know this is the DCnU. All of the old rules can go out the window.

Except, again, Snyder has shown a liking for the basics. He might be refashioning the history of Gotham a touch, but he's shown no desire to fiddle with stuff. Besides, the last time DC even toyed with the notion of Alfred as a bad guy, the result was disastrous amongst fans, so that, along with Snyder's desire to generally use a classic setup, means I don't think we'll see a 'Alfred is a villain' plot. Because, again, it's Alfred. Snyder's already pulled something of a shocker with this story, and to go with 'the Butler did it!' is a bit predictable.
