A bit of fun from the era when Babs was a congresswoman in Washington, DC.
(Detective Comics #483, 1979. 4 pages from a 12-page story.)

The story opens at the Lincoln Memorial, where Batgirl (with the help of a military SWAT unit) takes on a terrorist group called the Society for the Advancement of Everyone (no, really). Most of the terrorists are captured, but the leader escapes, and one of the goons makes a crack about Batgirl having "16-to-1" odds of stopping their next attack. After it's all over, a soldier named Rod Stromer nervously approaches Batgirl...

Batgirl's not actually mad, she's just obsessing over that "16-to-1" clue. And when they drive past the Washington Monument, she finally makes the connection: It's a reference to the 16th president (Lincoln) and the 1st president (Washington) -- the SAE's next target is the Washington Monument! They use Rod's car to crash through the barricaded front door, and the two of them make quick work of the terrorists.

VICTORY SEX: IMMINENT.

Alas, I don't think Rod ever appeared again. But he certainly fits right in with Babs' penchant for adorkable men of action (Dick, Ted).

Aww--when I first saw "a date with Batgirl," I instantly thought of Babs' "date" with Clark Kent. :(

Still a cute/cool story though. :)

Say WHAT now? I believe the phrase is "Scans or it didn't happen"

I don't have the scans, but I'm sure someone is willing to.

Basically, if I remember right, Superman was going a little crazy, so Batman had Barbara keep an eye on him, and that includes going on a date with Clark. As I recall, the date was more than a little awkward.

a terrorist group called the Society for the Advancement of Everyone (no, really).

Hey, sounds like a valid euphemism for "marching in lockstep" to me. :D

Insert here my somewhat more serious commentary on unequal starting places and therefore essentially preserving the status quo, etc.

...Okay, I have to say it. If I ever start a terrorist organisation, I'm so going to call it the Society for the Advancement of Everyone. (It should shut up all those people calling themselves "Men's Rights Activists" and "White Supremacist Heritage Groups", and let me get on with things. Right?)

VICTORY SEX: IMMINENT.

Heehee, go, Babs!

On the other hand: that could be difficult without unmasking. Or at least unsuiting, and let's hope she doesn't have any identifying scars or birthmarks...
