Wow.

I have never seen the Dark Knight look so helpless and vulnerable and defeated before.
Nice to finally see a credible threat of someone outdoing Batman in terms of intimidation.

i though the point of this was that he DID'T believe in the Court of Owls. I mean he did when he was a kid (it was kinda his first case) but he learned that it was not true or something like that... unless they figure... well a part of him still believed so he made a scenario where in if it was real he would do this or that...

I think what he was trying to say is that he wonders how Batman's going to get out of this situation. I mean yes, the Court of Owls was around before Batman and is a stronger myth right now, yadda yadda...but we know Batman's going to completely and utterly destroy these pricks by the end of this story, and it's going to be fun to find out how he pulls it off. :D

We do actually see that it seems to be broken in the panel with him holding Batman aloft. Or at least, the flashbulb's broken off.

The depiction of the Court in the preview is...interesting...you'd think they'd be more...collected and not leaping around and hollering like they're watching a rasslin' match.

I wonder if that's kind-of the point--this group used to be the most powerful symbol of Gotham, but with wealth and no competition over the generations they've grown soft, and Batman is the new hotness that will destroy them.

It's the drugs in Bruce's system giving them these horrible qualities.

Not all of it. One of the panels in the last page of the preview has the Court looking normal and yet still yelling like they were pulled out of a Claremont comic.

Given the owl claws and talons, it's definitely Bruce's system and the drugs getting to him. In the panels where they look normal, they aren't as rabid. The couple just clearly has an enthusiasm to let their child decide what happens to him.

Also, if it were a Claremont comic? We'd have about two hundred lines reciting who Batman is and what he can do, plus gratuitous explanations of what's going on in each and every single panel.

I've never really been a Batman fan but the art in the previews kept getting my attention so last night I downloaded the first 5 issues. I've got to admit I'm pretty impressed and I'll definitely be picking up issue 6 today.

DC keeps writing stories where the question seems to be, how will our hero survive and then we get survival and victory. I'd rather just see how will they win. Makes it seem less like author fiat

It's really just nice for me to see the so-often Mary-Sued Batman so completely defeated. In spirit, body and mind. I am very tired of him having contingency plans for everything and never really taking any risk because he knows all the outcomes and all of that nonsense. This is the way Batman should be. Not a damn Bat-god, but a human detective who only uses the cowl as a means to an end. A very vulnerable human detective.

Doesn't hurt that I love the way the Owl is portrayed, and the faces of the owls above.

for me it feels more Mary-Sueish to come back from being impossibly beaten down and win compared to just having a plan that allows you to win and executing is successfully. The body has limits

They're really trying very hard to turn these Court of Owls-guys into more dangerous, planning and smart villains than Ra's, Joker, Hush, etc. in such a short time..
