Heheh. I haven't really followed TOS (something I want to watch all the way through at some point), but this is kinda cute so far and I LOVE Doyle's art. :D

The Prime Directive is a complex thing, especially since it was probably first written so Gene Roddenberry could voice his annoyance with imperialism, both past and present.

Fans have explains the "Kirk liked the shoot first and invoke the Prime Directive later" thing by saying the Prime Directive has a lot of self-defense parameters.

If there are any you'd have to wonder where they are. Whenever anything interesting happens, like a distress signal or whatever, the Enterprise is always the only ship in range, even if it's only half built and there's loose wires everywhere.

Hm, a thought occurs.

Considering the number of scenarios that result from a distress signal or something similar leading to futzing with the crew, you'd think that just blowing up everything they don't recognise would solve a lot of their problems.

Though that's Zapp Brannigan logic to an extent.

And when they do routine missions, they somehow encounter God like beings, space monsters, and aliens having technology that ranges from planet where fantasies come true to a self-replaying simulations of a bad noir book. Wonder what other the other ships encounter on their journeys... that DON'T play out like Alien...

They probably get dismantled for spare parts by things like that "free" automated spaceship repair station that abducts crewmen from the ships that stop at it, so it can wire them into itself to use their nervous systems for extra harddrive space. (This actually happened)

Or they get into poker games with Ferengii and loose their ships due to them having no idea of the concept of currency.

Or they were possessed one by one by a fear-eating alien memetic being that turned out to be Jack the Ripper (he attacked women because they're the more fearful of the genders, don'tchaknow).

An Orion in Starfleet in TOS continuity. Interesting. (I was confused until reading her profile and seeing she's kind of the 'Worf' of this series, so that makes sense.)

I wonder whether they'll be using the 'Orion pheromones' thing revealed in Enterprise in some way...

I believe that was more or less the approach of the Dominion, which the Federation frowned upon... despite the fact that the Federation, in the one HUGE plothole that DS9 glossed over repeatedly, casually traipsed into their sovereign territory whenever they damn well wanted, despite the Dominion making it quite clear that that was not acceptable.

Here's a list of the Constitution-class ships that we know about (the same class as the original Enterprise) from the original series; a lot of them didn't end up well.

I hope not, i'd rather the crew just be nervous because she's a hyperconfident officer on a backwater ship and they're wondering wtf she's up to - not that they're nervous because the sexy greenskinned lady is obviously using her greenskinned sexyness to get promoted.
