Interesting way to make a reference to the old Sand Superman story. It was a satisfactory battle for our newest Superman.

Well...I'm looking forward to Action Comics now. I really don't mean that in a totally disparaging way, it looks like it hints at a lot of cool stuff to come in Action.

Okay, again why I love comics: Clark so matter-of-factly talking about rescuing citizens trapped in the collapsed subway after his battle with the giant robots. ;)

Looking at that final panel, it's difficult not to read it as anything other than George Perez's (and DC's) apology to Superman fans.

With the New 52 Relaunch, DC tried to make Superman "cool," and while it could be argued that they, and Grant Morrison, succeeded in doing so with Action Comics, it backfired when it came to the Superman's self-titled comic. Because Superman didn't come across as "cool" during these past six issues; rather, he came across as a lonely, bitter, angst-ridden sad-sack, which was not only contrary to the inspiring, confident figure that Superman is supposed to be (especially with how he was portrayed by Morrison in Action Comics) but is also not the ideal way you reintroduce one of your biggest heroes to long-time and newer readers. And let's not forget that Geroge Perez--the guy writing the title--admitted in an interview that one of the reasons he decided to leave after this arc because he felt this was no longer "his Superman." That just shows just how badly DC screwed up when it came to their relaunching the Superman title.

So with this issue, particularly Superman's speech to the Jazuur Nanite/Eradicator, it's basically Perez and DC's way to telling the fans "You guys were right. We made a mistake, but don't worry, we're fixing it right now."

I've been thinking exactly that, like they're trying too much to make the entire DCnU looks cool, or at least Marvel-like to bring in that audience across.

Astute analysis. I would have just gone with "oh my god the infodump from HELL." Outside of the Judge's speech in Sim's CHURCH & STATE as a GLARING exception, I always dislike writing that is primarily exposition and this would be a sequence--a whole issue, now that I've read it(the rest is pretty much the same except with Supergirl being punched and burned for pages upon pages)--I'd point to and say "THIS. This is what I mean."

I'll just say it straight out: for all his genius as a mainstream comics artist, George Perez is a TERRIBLE writer. I never understand why, when mainstream comics artists also become writers, so often they are revealed as wordier than Chris Claremont on meth. In some cases it still works--I'm thinking of John Byrne when he did FF. In this case, basically the book has been speech then punch, and apart from the occasional foray into "mope," that's pretty much it. Every issue indistinguishable from the last, really.

This is a TERRIBLE way to relaunch a series. And between this and the better-written Action's ADD jumping around in plot(what is it now, three unrelated plots they can't decide to settle on, and not even ones in chronological order?), seems dreadfully uncoordinated on an editorial level.

The book is just. Plain. Boring. I hope in future Perez sticks to what he does best, which is considerable as is.

Ok, I know talking during fight is something that you just have to accept as part of superhero genre. And I understand, that limited number of pages does not allow you to have 20 pages just fighting without nothing else happening.

But this is just ridiculous. Do they have 1 minute pause after every punch?
