OH FUCK YEAH, PHANTOM STRANGER. Y'all know I love me some Phantom Stranger, and I so hope we see a lot more of him.

...but I WILL be very disappointed if they ever attempt to explain him. Mystery and spookiness is his entire thing, man.

Given what they've said here, I'm worried that's exactly what they're gonna do. He's supposed to be one of these three "sinners", right? I fear they may be trying to pin down his origin (I'm guessing either the waffling-angel origin, or the Wandering Jew origin).

If they do, I'll be mighty disappointed and just a wee bit pissed. P.S. is my favorite fictional character, period, and part of what's so alluring about him is the fact that no one knows what the hell's up with him--and that's how it should be. That was why he had four different origin stories to begin with. Where he came from is not the point; it doesn't matter at all. Any story that could possibly explain his origin is largely irrelevant, because it does not figure into his character at all. You very very rarely see him say anything about the past, unless he's telling someone to let go of it in order to build a better future for themselves or others, or something of the sort. He's just not that fussed about the past. He's a here-and-now kind of guy.

(Also, was I the only one who liked the "virtuous man in a city of ruin, argued morality with an angel, won" story? That's my absolute favorite of his origins.)

Amen to that. Enough stories have given hints over the years that I think the half-fallen angel one is the most likely of the published four, but thankfully they've never really verified any given origin.

I'm hoping that he hasn't been changed in any way by the DC reboot, and is in fact the exact same character he's been since his introduction rather than a new iteration.

Man, I hope so. Like I said, he's my favorite fictional character, and part of why I like him is his utter lack of a solid origin. It's just not at all important to his character.
