Huntress #6 Preview

So. About whether or not Helena Wayne actually killed the Kufra dictator in the last issue?

Reload Image

Welp, that answers that question.

Needless to say this is the part where Ibn Hassan orders the hit on Huntress.

And so it begins...

Damnit! Is it Wednesday yet? Helena stop being so sexy! The wait is killing me. XP

On another note, this note from Paul Levitz seems to imply Helena Wayne was Helena Bertinelli for a good portion of her time on the main DCU Earth:

“Wayne or Bertinelli …or perhaps both?” series writer Paul Levitz said exclusively to THE SOURCE. “What a lively debate erupted as this mini-series evolved, including in the DC halls as we discussed how best to fit perhaps DC’s most determined adventurer into the world of the New 52, and into the as-yet-unleashed new Earth 2. Readers argued over nuances of her behavior as well as deliberate clues, and their reactions helped shape the stories. In the end, the answers will take a few more tales to tell, and will be revealed in the upcoming WORLDS’ FINEST series, which will pick up one flight after the last page of HUNTRESS #6. And it’s a safe bet that the reveals will surprise everyone before we’re done.”

Huh...on that note, I think I finally understand why Helena burns her Helena Bertinelli passport on the first page of Worlds' Finest. I take this to mean Huntress #6 will mark the official "death" of Helena Bertinelli and will have to "disappear" as such? (Which would be pretty pointless since she'll still be operating as Huntress on the main DCU Earth anyway?) Still sucks cause I wanted "Helena Bertinelli" to at least maintain a presence, but I guess this is for the best when you consider Helena B fans are still not happy about the change (and I can't say I blame them). XP

Okay, fair enough. I still think that we were meant to question what happened, and there might still be more to this than what we've been shown so far, but dude is indeed dead.

I'm beginning to think the reason they cannot return to Earth 2 is they have taken over the Bodies of DCNu's Bretinelli and Star (that's the reason Karen seems so not herself in Mr. T.

I would fully endorse this explanation.

Yeah, that was precisely my guess. That the Helena and Karen of Main DCU are just normal people and then one day they wake up and it's not them anymore.

Oh shit, what if they switched?! What if Bertinelli and Terrific's girlfriend suddenly woke up on Earth-2 and are forced to become Robin/Supergirl with absolutely no experience how?

sorry for spamming, but i just noticed something Helena is Wearing a CROSS... (i mean the costume has a cross too, but actually wearing a cross in civies.... is different... i NEED and explaination for th is!)

oh i will love it regardless, but i was just saying she is wearing one and i don't remember her wearing one before... HB wore one i know that, because she was roman catholic, but i am not sure about HW (that is your domain you would know more) so i am curious as to WHY HW is wearing one both in and out of Costume... (that's what begs the explanation)

Really? i guess i have't noticed the cross before (or it might have been the reason i thought she was HB...) i don't read MrT so i was not aware she wore that... still EXPLANATION! :D

OH she's in this issue? all very interesting... but i need explaination! those are very significant symbols and... i feel weird that they would be used without SOME type of explaination....

I think you're obsessing too much over the significance of the cross. :P

maybe.... i won't deny i can get a bit obsessive...

But as a writer and as an artist myself, and as comics is a combination of both mediums the use of symbols is not (or at least it SHOULDN'T be) and arbitrary thing. especially symbols tied to a significant character or religion.

is it possible both of those characters are using those symbols arbitrarily? yes, it is... Is it possible that they are using those symbols as part of thier cover...? okay, i can live with that (it would annoy me, but yes, i can live with that) because it would be a reason.

but if the writer wrote those symbols in, or the artist drew those symbols in, from a literary and artistic pov there HAS to be a reason. other wise it's just... using symbols that mean something to some one (in this case religious groups) for no reason other than they are pretty, and i find that... some what insulting...

hell even if Helena just likes Crosses, fine. Or if the cross on her costume is for the "Cross hairs" of a hunter/Huntress okay i can get behind that (again slightly annoyed but at least the cross hairs for her in costume makes sense)

also that BOTH these characters wear these symbols SHOULD be significant.

Shame for the Bertinelli fans for complaining about the return of Helena Wayne, It remembers me when the Cass fans (some of them) were outraged because they thought Kate Kane took the place of Cass as the woman in the Bat line.

"Yeah she is a Lesbian, we get It, there is nothing more to her, Cass was a so much better character" Then Rucka gave us ELEGY, then everyone swallowed their words.

Helena Wayne existence doesnt mean Helena Bertinelli is gone, Is just that Snyder has not used her yet ;-)

We can have both Helenas and be a happy family this is not a bussines competition! And so far this Helena Wayne is promising, Im still pissed off that instead of "leting him died" as the real Helena Wayne had done (as she never showed concern for the fact a criminal could die but for the fact she prefered see them in court facing the people) this Helena pulled the thrigger.

The subtle difference changes everything, of course the whole death thing can be retconed, maybe he fell in the water and Helena did not bother in rescuing him, then add the cheap shark and you are done.

The thing is this Helena Wayne still is another Woman Kicking Ass and while more we have of them the better.

Just read the whole thing, so we can have two earths but not two Helenas... Not even when Morrison could handle easely two Batmans on the same earth.

And that means that even thou I love Helena Bertinelli I would have the rest of the fans throwing tomatos at me for supporting heavely the return of Helena Wayne.

I know DC could find a way for people dont liking Helena Wayne. The next series needs to be really good if It wants to survive, probably will not. :-(

The best solution, and the solution I support at 110% is having both.

Both are awsome, we should get both if we have both earths.

A lot, but not all (you are right on that), fans of Bertinelli link the lost of one Huntress with the return of the old one, is psicological but very real.

If we could have both the waters would be more calmed.

But fans tend to react that way, It happened with Kate Kane and with Damian Wayne. However if they fused both Helenas they would get in a lot of a mess, cause It would be like they are "remplacing" one with another.

With Damian this worked because there was the Red Robin mantle for Tim, with Kate worked because she was BATwoman and not BATgirl and with Steph they went and created Black Bath so Cass could still be a vigilante.

The solution here would dont make another persona for Bertinelli but to separate the characters with each one on their own "Earth" instad of making Bertinelli an "alias" of Helena Wayne.

This issue is in the shadows thou, It get me nervous to read a series by Levitz without Jimenez as they worked so good together. And the new design of PeeGee doesnt help.

Nervous and Paranoid are the two words in this dilema, but I know that the Threath is very real.
