Superman using a ramp truck and some satellites to propel himself into space--pure and unadulterated awesome. :'D

If I could do a running ramp jump off a truck and straight-up zoom into space, I would die happy, not to mention immediately. But that's the price of dying amazingly.

I wish Superman would keep the shirt and jeans get-up.

Meh, McNinja and Bruce Lee didn't need a truck to reach orbit.

Surely you don't expect Superman to be as awesome as McNinja?

I mean, there are limits.

I think that will happen when his clothes burn up on re-entry.

So... this Superman doesn't need air pressure to keep his eyeballs inside? What about temperature regulation? Hmm.

Which will be why he gets the costume out there.

By the way, his not being able to breathe in space isn't new. That was the case, at least at first, with Byrne as well.

So he wasn't able to at first, but John Byrne can breathe in space now?

I take back everything I ever said about the man!

...which is nothing, come to think about it. I've never talked about him. But I will now!

hmmm the breathing in space confuses me... Kara cant breathe in space either... she held her breath... for a VERY long time.... but in the recent Justice league, didn't he tell hal he COULD breathe in space? does he... learn how to later?

At a guess; "Yes".

Superman's powers are still on a steep upward curve this early on (five years ago), more recently I assume his powers have become more complete.

I think he only said he could GET to space, not that he could breathe there, though of course none of them can breathe in space. The old line used to be that neither Kal nor Kara needed to breathe at all. It was Byrne who dropped that.

But as icon says: yeah, he's on a steep learning curve at this point. Hell, he may already be flying and not realize it. Otherwise physics doesn't exist in the DCU. But there is no reason he'd necessarily know what his powers' extent is--he'd have to find out.

I like the pure audacious Pecos Bill ridiculousness of this. That's what Superman is for. When you were a kid, and you thought just willing something really hard could help you do it? That's what Superman is.

Yes, but them's the breaks... plus given the amount of space junk in Earth orbit, they may just be defunct.

The one he specifically spins is labelled with the name Galaxy (as in the Galaxy Broadcasting System, which bought out the Planet sometime in the next 5 years) and has the same symbol as the tie Glenmorgan's given in a later scene...so I'ma say 'yes, yes it is'.

Yeah, and how much does it cost put payloads into space again? I hope you enjoyed your satellite Internet service while you had it, Nunavut, coz Superman's a busy man and he's got places to be.

Not at all. Notice how he spits in Newton's eye by stopping on his own. Technically he should just keep going until he hits something else. Here he just leapt to something. Yet there's nothing to stop his momentum--he just does. That takes some doing--escape velocity is 25,000 mph. Just making contact with the satellite should have destroyed it,. Where did all that force go? Supposedly here, he's not generating it and doesn't know he actually can cease it. You could argue that he's actually flying here, it's just, like Dumbo, he doesn't realize he's doing it himself. But if you assume he's only jumping here, well.

BTW, historically the moment when we started calling what Supes does flight was when he changed direction in mid-jump.

I have to wonder what kind of a run up did he have, that it shredded his shows, but the truck's fairly gentle upward slope is enough to get him out of the atmosphere.

Maybe a certain amount of unconscious flight ability is starting to assist him on his superjumps? Doesn't seem like he leaves a pothole everytime he jumps over a big building.

What I find interesting is it destroyed his boots, but his shirt (which was in tatters to begin with) and jeans aren't torn up by the friction and/or the force of the air colliding with him.

When more closely to the sun and while most time on solar exposition superman powers grow and they know no top.

DC One Million was a prof of that, when Kyle Rayner traveled to the Future.

If Morrison remembers his old plots (and he does, A LOT) superman would probably fly and breath in space after his voyage, or at least fly.
