Oh god, I hope they weren't serious about that. The characters are, at most, seventeen. Probably younger. And they really haven't been dating for that long. And this is, I think, both of their first relationships. Marriage is not a great direction for them.

Although I am sorta digging the fact that it's a little similair to Scott's proposal to Jean from the Dark Phoenix Saga. Right before everything went to hell.

Eh, a proposal does not necessarily mean, "Let's run off to Vegas! Right now!" It could also be a, "I am making a commitment to not go anywhere. But ceremonies can wait a little while."

That's how I read it. I saw it more as a "Hey, I see this as more than just a temporary high school relationship," as opposed to a "let's start planning a wedding for day after graduation!"
