Um... maybe it means I'm just interested in knowing more about the lady who helped create such a fine and upstanding son? Or possibly it just means I was anticipating a load of cool vintage girls' comic scans.

Mum's never been a big fan of comics to be honest, she certainly doesn't own any.

(Oh, and I don't think you're any more guilty of Americanisms than I am, so no, you're quite safe there.)
