First.. second week of March!
Mar. 11th, 2012 04:36 pmWhat an atrocious timekeeper I am.
One week later than promised, I'm introducing the third theme week of 2012:

Tell us about your firsts. First comic? First comic that meant ______ to you? First favourite character? First favourite artist? First comic that made you realise you wanted to devote your life to ______? AND SO ON.
You decide.
Tag with theme: my first week!
Or if you feel like reading instead of scanning - and possibly for "firsts" of a different type - just read back through February's cute romance week! Upon which I missed commenting due to IRL cute romancing taking me far from a keyboard but which I have bookmarked for future cheer-ups to be sure.
Get scanning!

Date: 2012-03-11 07:42 pm (UTC)Although, technically, my 'first' was probably one of my dad's old dark age Superman books. But Superman had a mullet and there were cyborgs so generally I don't consider that the first comic book I ever read. For my own sanity.

Date: 2012-03-11 10:18 pm (UTC)At the moment we're working fom the most popular suggestions that we got when I asked for them in January.. I'll probably put out another call for suggestions and votes this month sometime or maybe in April (and throw in the ones we got but were lower on popularity then). But you're welcome to suggest theme weeks to the comm at large whenever, or pilot them if you want. That is as it's always been.
OR if you think of a really good time-specific theme and would rather if was 'official' as you say you can shoot us an email or PM any time.

Date: 2012-03-12 07:02 am (UTC)However, due to the (in hindsight, a little careless) way that the comics would be left in a big box ready for reading, the first two to really leave a mark on me turned out to be:
Tim Sale's art creeped me out as a kid, but I've come to appreciate it.
My first Marvel (which were about the same time) were the A5-sized Conan the Barbarian series, which were essentially non-colored versions of these printed on even worse quality paper than usual:
I remember thinking that Elric (see the second cover) was a pretty cool guy
who use a sword that absorb souls and doesn't afraid of anything. But for the absolute, very first, comics I ever read? Look no further than Calvin and Hobbes. It's a fair bet to say that I would've turned out very different if I'd never come across its brand of humour.
