If Booster didn't have balls the size of Montana, he wouldn't be a cape to begin with.

[identity profile] randyripoff.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 02:13 (UTC)(link)
I don't think Magog is quite that powerful. I think that if he and Superman really threw down, there would be a Magog sized stain on the pavement within approximately two seconds.

[identity profile] statham1986.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 03:13 (UTC)(link)
Magog's power was never really defined too well in any of his appearances, as I recall. It seemed Ross was more intent on clearly expressing what an analogy of the bad-ass 90's Magog was that he forgot to do this, although maybe that was the point - Given bunches of heroes and the like seemed to get powerboosts conviniently timed so they could defeat a stronger enemy - at least, in the independants, anyway.

As it was, Magog didn't even seem capable of harming Superman during Kingdom Come, and whilst that Superman's ten years beyond the version in the current books, I doubt he could do that much.

Personally, I always thought Magog was the comic book embodiment of the idea of 'all mouth, no trousers'.

Booster was the first to put himself in front of Doomsday. Knowing fullwell who Doomsday was and what Doomsday was supposed to do.

[identity profile] kagome654.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 00:43 (UTC)(link)
Instead of lecturing Magog why doesn't Booster take the guy with his arm ripped off to get medical attention?

[identity profile] kagome654.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 08:53 (UTC)(link)
Oh, right! Duh!

[identity profile] jlbarnett.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 09:58 (UTC)(link)
Magog made a tourniquet on the guy's arm before ripping it off.

[identity profile] kagome654.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 13:54 (UTC)(link)
That was considerate of him. Maybe he's not such a bad dude after all.

[identity profile] demonprawn.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 00:52 (UTC)(link)
This is the Magog from JSA?

[identity profile] randyripoff.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 02:12 (UTC)(link)
Yup. I'm sure it's just a worldview thing that they're trying to get across, but it doesn't work.

Also, I seriously doubt Magog is "Superman" powerful. Reasonably powerful, I'm sure, but not so much that Superman couldn't take him whenever he chose to use enough force.

[identity profile] jlbarnett.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 09:59 (UTC)(link)
my thoughts too. Either he's gone off the deep end off panel or the writier didn't read his JSA appearences.

[identity profile] pyrotwilight.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 10:06 (UTC)(link)
Not really, even in JSA he showed he was more than willing to use excessive force. Granted I like to think this story might've been written to be published in Booster Gold around the time Thy Kingdom Come was being published.

I just noticed something...if Magog has the power to rip someones arm off their bodies then why does he carry a gun, and if I remember the JSA correctly, doesn't his spear shoot projectiles making the gun even more useless?

[identity profile] icon_uk.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 04:21 (UTC)(link)
He carries a gun because

A) You can't rip a man's arm off from a hundred yards away, but you can shoot him

B) A gun is easiesr to aim and manouver than a projectile firing spear thing.

C) A projectile firing spear thing would blow someone up, a gun will wound.

D) A good soldier always carries a backup weapon.

[identity profile] statham1986.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 04:28 (UTC)(link)
Wasn't he a military guy before he got turned into Magog? The gun could have some sort of significance for him.

[identity profile] rdfox.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 07:43 (UTC)(link)
He was, Special Forces.

And that gun looks to be a very nicely drawn M9 (Beretta 92F) sidearm, so it's presumably his service sidearm from before his death and resurrection.

Of course, you're not gonna hit the broad side of a barn with a 9mm beyond about 20 yards, so I'd halfway expect him to keep an M4 carbine (shortened M16, basically) on his back for long-range work, but Foxhack's points still stand.

Ergh. icon_uk's points, not Foxhack's. x.x

80s Poster Boy vs. (Poor Copy Of) 90s Poster Boy.

Heh.

*squints* Hmm. Brown again. There better be some sort of payoff on Rip's continually changing appearance, or I'll be kind of cranky. It doesn't even have to be good. Just...something would be nice, eventually. It's too consistent to just be colorist error.

[identity profile] aaron_bourque.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 08:03 (UTC)(link)
It's either a cloaking/disguise field he uses, or it's changes to the time stream. It's gotta be something that's simple to explain, or it wouldn't keep on happening without comment, or something that nobody is aware of . . . or it wouldn't keep happening.

[identity profile] darklorelei.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 08:12 (UTC)(link)
I'm betting on changes to the time stream, but I'm hoping there's something to it, preferably if there is Magnificent Bastardry involved.

Damn, Booster Gold averting Kingdom Come in the DCU. I would read that story, hell I want that as the 2011 event!

[identity profile] sailorlibra.insanejournal.com 2009-05-27 13:16 (UTC)(link)
Seconded, especially if he calls in his old JLI buddies.
