As Dick finds out what happened to Raymond/Saiko years before

Odd that Dick doesn't seem to be using his escrima sticks, they'd be useful when fighting someone with hand blades, no?

But anyway....

The raw rat diet is looking pretty good by comparison.

The Court of Owls are indeed bastards of the first water! (I may have my little quirks, but that's too extreme for me thanks)

over all I'm tired of villains blaming heroes for what other villains did to them

DC is doubling down on some tired old tropes and it's bugging me.

I could not agree more. This trope must wither and die. It's like blaming the weather man for the time you were mugged buying an umbrella.

It's stupid and contrived. Dick didn't do anything! If this guy hates what these people did to him he should be going after them and see Dick as mere obstacle.

you know, I don't think anyone even does the obvious swerve, which is villain pretends to do his boss' bidding then reveals the conspiracy to the hero to make the real villain pay.

I can see Atomic Robo doing that to a recurring villain. Not Doctor Dinosaur, of course, but it would be wonderful to see a villain blaming the hero for his own incompetence/obsessions/whatever and the hero casually calling him on it.

Least we still have that idiot woman from Superman: Grounded as lower bound barometer for stupid blaming in comics.

I think that they're trying to play off the notion of survivor's guilt--Dick having escaped from an abusive situation, but not rescued Raymond from it--but I don't know that it really translates well to this situation.

Yeah. How is this Dick's fault, that this happened to him?

Ah, I just now noticed you did mention it. As soon as I saw the owl I just went straight to the comments. So basically Nightwing #7 will be building up to the Night of the Owls event? Intriguing. :3

I think it's an iron maiden, right? Or a...wooden maiden....

Hence Saiko talking about being surrounded by daggers or some such.

This build up just isn't getting me interested on Nightwing's part in Court of Owls.

I just don't like the "secret connections" that the circus has because it just feels hokey and cheap storytelling. That trick can be used as a wow factor, but I think it's not being used well as it could have been.

I am underwhelmed by this book so far and this was one of the books I really was looking forward to at the reboot.

Makes sense though, just as adopting a kid raised by acrobats (in theory) would give them a good platform for being trained up to being a masked vigilante, the same could be said for training a kid up to being an acrobatic serial killer.

I hate this story and I want it to go away.

And totally agree with those hating on the whole "a bunch of guys kidnapped me as a child and tortured me for years! Clearly this is the fault of the child who SHOULD have been kidnapped and tortured for years!"

Circuses don't do this.

So, apparently, Haly was involved in the court of Owls (which is a retcon I HATE, despite liking the Court of Owls as a plot idea), so that's where the sudden EBIL nature creeps into the circus.

But yeah, stupid retcon is stupid.

The circus didn't do it, the secret society of entitled rich assholes did.

Not that there seems to be any other type of rich person club in DC these days.

I'm not a Conservative or a Republican or anything, but really there are enough rich wealthy people in the DCU for there to be some kind of joint venture between them to use their money and influence to save the world beyond their superheroics, right?

Like a team up between Michael Holt, Bruce Wayne, Karen Starr, Kord Industries etc. to save the world via something along the same likes as Batman Inc. but being more towards providing humanitarian aid in disasters and crisises beyond crimefighting and immediate relief in the aftermath.

Like maybe it'd be straying too far from reality to have them come up with an AIDS vaccine with their joint money or something, but it'd make a change from anonymous groups of wealthy people secretly being out to mess with the prols.

Just want to add in with those who don't get this motivation at all. If somebody tortures the crap out of you and then turns you into a killing machine why wouldn't they be the first ones on the list?

This isn't even portrayed as Stockholm Syndrome, its not even portrayed as insane really....its just stupid.

I haven't seen that many smooth drawn bleeding lacerations since Jesus.

Also, I squeed at the mention of escrima :) Though eskrima is how we call it here (eh, same diff).
