Two things: When did they become best friends? I read the Utopia crossover and the Dark X-Men mini series, and didn't get that vibe at all. Wonder how much time has passed in universe?

Also... did Omega ALWAYS have that X on his crotch?

Did they? I skipped the Dark X-Men mini, but I remember during Utopia they showed him being forcibly pumped with mutant energy by Osborn. It seemed to me that it was treated more like a forced drug addiction. I could be remembering it all wrong though, sorry.

Even if there was not so much time, I was under the impression that Mimic had so few friends that "best friend" was not hard to attain a qualification, and just required being a little nice to him.

Well after Osborn's reign ended Mimic and Omega would have been the only Dark X-men left. Mystique was killed a while back. And Dark Beast rejoined the Clan Akkaba.

I don't know how they suddenly became best friends but Gage does that a lot. Rachel and Rogue have suddenly become besties when Gage took over.

Also, Rachel and Rogue hung out during Claremont's unfortunately named "X-treme X-men," although it's a bit sad that they're focusing on that and not the gigantic ball of lesbian subtext that was Kitty and Rachel during that run.
