Huh, an alien supervillain who doesn't get why Superman doesn't want to conquer Earth. Hardly the first time this has happened -- see the White Martians, other Kryptonians like Zod, etc.

Okay, it's the first time since Flashpoint.

Still, all is forgiven because it's Superman vs. the Daemonites. Which makes perfect sense since Mr. Majestic was basically a Superman expy anyway.

Well, given that I don't think we've seen any sign of a Kherubim presence countering the Daemonites on the planet, perhaps in the new continuity the Kryptonians were the equivalent of the Kherubim before they went bye byes?

Would that make Supergirl the equivalent of Zealot or something?

I am deeply confused by the decision to make Hellspont the first Big Bad of the DCnU, considering how painfully lame he is.

I find most of the Wildstorm universe elements in the NuDCU to be underwhelming.

I don't see how he's the "first Big Bad" of the DCnU. I mean, he's certainly the first actual villain we've seen modern Superman fight (at least one that wasn't immediately lame), and he's part of the Daemonites, who are certainly going to be big players, but I'm not sure if I entirely agree with that.

Yeah, hopefully the very idea that there could even be a DCU Big Bad -- as if the all the DCU comics were just separate chapters of one larger story, fragments of the big picture, instead of separate stories that can borrow characters from each other -- is the kind of thinking done away with by the latest reboot.

I think there will be one big villain, probably coming out of JL and related to Pandora, but I think it's gonna be a while before it happens. Johns just started laying down hints, and he usually takes a very slow burn approach to that sort of thing.

That does seem to be the case--like right now we have a lot of important villains, like the Court of Owls, the Rot, the Damonites and NOWHERE.

In 10 years, we're all going to be deeply ashamed of this. And 10 years after that, we'll do it again.

Not sure I understand how his suit works.

Yes. I am now just tuning in.

Well, we found out in Action #7 that the costume's regular state is white, with no symbol, and turns to the regular costume when he puts it on it shifts. So it's possible there might be a bit of a camouflage element to them, and/or it retracts back for better concealment.

I really like that idea, because if someone decides that they want to simplify the costume later on, they can just say that he felt like changing it up and made the suit change with his mind. Easy-peesy. XD

I love the dissonance between the story and the art, where Glowy Skull Dude is trying to establish Clark's position vis-a-vis the world's political structure and his place in it, and in the meantime they're both striking standard-issue poses for no particular reason.

Remember when Alan Moore revealed how the daemonites lost the war in Wildcats? And how, despite being part of the Wildcat's central concept and main enemies, no one cared about them afterwards?

You'd think that the old Image writers would have remembered that, and learned their lesson.

Yeah. How the Wildcats as a book somehow got BETTER after leaving the crappy initial concept behind is obviously too much for Jim Lee to wrap his thick skull around.

Everything from Moore's run onwards (and especially Casey's stuff) was better than the earliest stories.

Helspont. He was apparently a major villain in the Wildcats, a big-time member of the Daemonite army. Here, it seems like he's an ancient, abandoned Daemonite (possibly a hybrid to figure out his different physiology from the DCnU Daemonites), who fell to Earth after Stormwatch's space base was partially exploded.

Oh, gotta love insane, monologuing super-villains. :D

Seriously, I really liked this issue--it was a fun, solid take on Supes, that felt far more in line with the awesomeness we're seeing in Action than all six of Perez's issues combined. If it were me, I would have chose to put up the page where Clark inadvertently agrees to have Jimmy move in and to pick up Lois' sister from the train-station at the same time.
