Taking the whimsy out of their characters/concepts has been the most annoying consistency of NuDC. Everything from turning Capt. Cold to Iceman to armoring up Superman; its all reeked of dumbing down, pandering to what DC thinks the general populace would accept, and lessening the suspension of belief.....its downright insulting to the existing readership before Flashpoint.

Ice powers require less suspension of disbelief than ice technology? I doubt realism's what they're going for there.

Not so much realism but I imagine many a new or shit even old fans ask the question, "How the fuck is that guy consistently able to pull a trigger faster than the Flash can reach him?"

DC prolly figured a guy with a freeze gun being a recurring threat to a guy who can break the light barrier is a bit hokey and might turn off new coming fans countered by amping up Cold with ice powers ...

But a guy, who throws boomerangs is apparently is something totally diffrent :-)
