I recall the story that when Christy Marx, the story editor on the 1980's cartoon show was discussing the second season, she told the producers that she wanted to add a fourth member to the bad-girls group, the Misfits, and that she wanted her to be black so there would be a balance to the other three members, who were all white. She was told that they couldn't have a black Misfit because you couldn't have a black character be such a negative role model... there was a pause and the producer then said in a slightly embarrassed tone "You can make her British if you like", and so we got Jetta, the (white) English Misfit!
