Newsarama has the solicits for most of the Justice League related items for July 2012.

Some stuff feel like the old DCU "telephoning it in" work, and there is this particular.... piece.... that continues to reflect the darker trend DCnU is taking.

... when I pee.

I know that we do not criticize artist outright at S_D, but my disapproval of this newest incarnation of Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, well, I hate to say it... it's like visual gonorrhea.

According to the Ed Brubaker storyline where he teams up with Batman, he may have kind of inspired Bruce too. As he owns a signed photograph of Alan with Bruce's dad as a kid, or something. Plus the two were actually congenial towards each other in comparison to some of Batman's post-Officer Down crossovers.

I don't know, if I was a criminal, I'd definitely be afraid of a guy who was constantly screaming and on fire.

Alan Scott: AAAUUUUGH! PUT DOWN THE MONEY! AAAAUGH!

Criminal: Jesus Christ, dude! You're on fire!

Alan Scott: AAAAH! MONEY! AAAAH! DOWN! AAAH!

Criminal: Okay, jeez! Just... go to a hospital or something!

It's not too terribly bad, except that Katar (or whatever he's going by in the nu) apparently now has fur-covered wings.

Bah, everyone knows that if you're going to fly in the DCU it has to be On Leather Wings.

I know it's kind of the natural assumption to hate everything that's different from DC, but I fail to see what's so bad about Scott's new design; especially since we don't really see a whole lot besides the upper torso and the mask.

I actually kinda like the costume. It seems like a neat Green Lantern take. (Wasn't exactly enamored with his old one.) Not a huge fan of his new skeleton crew, though.

To be fair about his facial expression, he IS on fire. I hear that can sting a little.

Agreed. Just not seeing a lot to hate there (yet), it's a bit like his "Kingdom Come" outfit, and that's fine with me, as it differentiates it from the "usual" GL costumes, and keeps the tone better than someone called Green Lantern wearing a primarily red outfit (Sorry Alan Scott fans, even when I was 5 that one never worked for me. "I'm Green Lantern".... because of my tiny little ring that you probably can't even see in most photos... so I'll wear primarily red."

Also, we don't know WHY he's screaming, there's been a time or two when the power has proven to great for him to control, but magic green fire works for me.

My problem is this: I had to be told that wasn't Hal Jordan.

Can we have a LITTLE visual distinctiveness, guys? Just a little? Enough that I don't have to be told otherwise?

The different logo, ring, and more armor-looking shoulder-pads didn't give it away? I'm sure he'll be blond like he was Preboot too, but we really can't see that due to most of his body being enveloped in green flame.

Little hard to tell when he's on fire. Also, considering all the costume changes going on, I don't actually have who wears what nailed down in my head. For all I know, they decided to change his stuff at random for this artist's interpretation.

If I had familiarity to fall back on, it'd be one thing, but I don't.

Nah, it's fine. I mean, I see the differences when they're pointed out to me, I just really couldn't see them on my own and come to the conclusion "This is a different man." Being able to see his hair might help clue me in, but... well, fire.

It reminds me a lot of that cover where Hal had all the rings and was doing his Mwahaha I Am Bling thing. That might have affected my perception, too.

Yep. I remember reading New Mutants comics in the 90s before they transitioned to the original X-Force and thinking that everyone constantly looked like they were in need of some Ex-Lax. The crossover with Jim Lee and whats-his-face on X-Factor at the time during the "X-Tinction Agenda" was probably the first time I can remember Cable not looking like he wasn't getting enough fiber in his diet.

It's an immediate step-up from the first cover he did for Hawkman, which was Carter just standing there looking constipated.

I think I'm the only one who liked the silly disco-collared cape! It was ridiculous, but I thought it was cute and charmingly old-timey, since he was supposed to be an older dude and all.

I like that the older heroes have more old-timey or circus-like outfits, as opposed to the newfangled armor or capes or whatever else that younger heroes wear. I think it creates a nice sense of time and character, rather than giving them all the same armor-like costumes.

Oh, man, I love the Red Bee's outfit. It's endearingly goofy. GIANT POOFY SLEEVES AND STRIPEY LEGGINGS.

(Also, I had no idea that there was a second Red Bee.)

I'm just wondering if Alan will be a part of the Green Lantern Corps on this new E-2. Though given his ring was made sort of related to the GLC anyway it wouldn't be too far fetched that he remains an honorary GL for Earth but does the occasional GLC mission if they fell he's needed.

Upper lips are amongst the most flammable of body parts so it went first.

That Earth-2 cover.... It's like someone was drawinga Ghost Rider cover and changed it into Alan Scott at the last moment. I'm getting flashbacks to Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengance here.

I hate the fact that Alan Scott's just basically Hal Jordan...see?? This is why I preferred having the golden age heroes living in the DCU's actual post! Putting them back on an alternate world? Just an excuse to make them modern and gritty as well... :(
