Four pages from AVENGING SPIDER-MAN 6, part one of the "Omega Effect" crossover. Not in any way whatsoever Guest-starring Darkseid.

Reed Richards wants to retrieve the Omega Drive, currently in Daredevil's possession, so he asks Spider-Man to ask Daredevil for it, knowing the two are pals.

The Punisher makes his grab for the drive, which involves lots of explosions and loud noises to overwhelm DD's senses, but they're interrupted by a fight between Hand ninjas (also after the drive) and Spidey.

After the Hand are taken care of, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Punisher naturally do what any mature adults would do when they have goals that conflict with one another -- They calmly talk the matter over with each other.

Spider-Man asks what some people in this community did when DAREDEVIL 10.1 came out. Namely, why did Daredevil only pull the information on Black Spectre instead of all five crime cartels'?

Really loving this new take on the Punisher. It's nice to have one who can integrate into the proper MU to some degree and yet still be.. Well, Frank. Also still loving the Big Boss look he's still sporting.

I think it is predominantly the way the artist (who also did the issue of Punisher where I first noticed the resemblance) draws Frank - I'm sure I've seen other artists doing the new Punisher book and I haven't liked it quite as much, but.. Yeah. It's a great look for him. I also like the new shirt with the skull smeared and washed out.

So, narrrative mandate aside, why is Spider-Man (an Avenger no less) committed to a four person plan when the fate of four global terrorist organisations is in the balance? Calling in a few friends to help, Ben Grimm, Luke Cage and Iron Fist if you want to keep it vaguely "street level".

And any hero with a "no kill" rule choosing to work with Punisher is always going to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

The scalpel vs. hammer tactic.

Keep it street level, keep the circle of trust small so it does not get compromised, move now before the enemy can organize and defend.

Speed, efficiency, and they have all worked together before. Bring in more Avengers and you get complications in logistics and egos.

But with Peter involved, its also the "just so damned crazy it just might work" plan.

"And any hero with a 'no kill' rule choosing to work with Punisher is always going to leave a bad taste in my mouth."

They kind-of mention that in-story. In the end of the issue, when the four are splitting up to get ready, Peter says to Matt along the lines of, "I hope you understand how much I consider you a friend--because I just decided to team up with the Punisher to save your ass."

After the end of Frankencastle, Frank went back to New York. He took an interest in the case of Rachel Cole-Alves, an Afghanistan veteran and Marine whose entire family was wiped out by unknown gunmen on the day of her wedding. The attack seems to have been motivated by a shadowy criminal syndicate for unknown reasons, and that syndicate is what sicced the Vulture on Frank.

After she and Frank ran into each other on opposite ends of the case, they decided to team up.

Don't know about the partner, but the gem that Elsa Bloodstone kept that was his "fuel" during Frank-enstein healed him. He was just taking on so much damage that it never got a chance to finish the repairs until his sabbatical on Monster Island.

The partner thing happened during the current Rucka book. I haven't been reading it (I intend to now that I've read this), but from what I understand, she was a Marine who was just about to get married when the mob whacked the wedding, taking out her family and her to-be fiance. She ends up meeting Frank, who was going after the people who wacked the wedding, and there you go.

Hahah!
Well, can't seem to dig up Frank/Peter (may have imagined that one, but I'm sure it exists somewhere in the internet).
But for Punisher/Daredevil, and Daredevil/Spider-man, we have some winners:

http://cyclops-squid.dreamwidth.org/tag/fic:+daredevil for Frank/Matt, that's three fics and one drabble collection by the same author.

http://ofthespider.livejournal.com/21736.html And here is an index of this long and substantial Daredevil/Spiderman universe also written by one wonderful author.

I wouldn't recommend them if they weren't good, either ;)

This art.... is beautiful.
Anime-beautiful. I've gotten so used to comic art depicting regular people to downright ugly ones that I'm surprised to see something that's both realistic but pretty-looking, like how they choose actors in Hollywood films.

Aside from that, Daredevil, Spidey and the Punisher in one comic?

After months and months, finally, something to nip by the comic book store for.

What surprised me was how well Spidey was written, considering the last time he crossed-over with Daredevil, he pretty much became the Meg of the story. I don't know if it confirms my suspicions that Waid was forced into the cross-over and just tried to work around him, or if Greg Rucka helped tip the balance (BTW--anyone else now wanting to see Rucka do a run on ASM?), but he was REALLY cool here--took out a team of ninjas, had some funny jokes ("So...I see you've started dating again."), and was actually the guy who hatched the plan.

This is...argh argh NO I DON'T LIKE WAID fine it's good and I think I'll check it out now.

Looking at Frank there with Matt, realizing how long they've known each other, suddenly Frank seemed very real. Everyone has a crazy friend like him, though hopefully not at that level. The guy who's got a conspiracy theory for everything and is very sure he's the only one you can trust.

Of course, in the MU those theories are real. But still.

Also: nice touch--Peter's one weakness, the laws of comedy. He just can't stop the wisecrack machine once it's set in motion.
