Here's ten and two-thirds pages from issue 1 of Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples' SAGA (which was 44 pages in total) and four pages from issue 2.

Meanwhile, on Wreath...

Boom.

Issue 2. Alana and Marko are trying to find Cleave's mythical Rocketship Forest, so that they can get off the planet.

I have the biggest lady-boner for Brian K. Vaughan's writing. Seriously. Everything he writes is like freaking gold. Even if he started writing Youngblood or Bomb Queen, I WOULD START PICKING THEM UP.

Plus the art in this is really neat. It fits the story really well. (He always seems to get artists who work with his writing style.)

This is wicked going to end up being one of those books I buy in trade and floppies.

I feel this way about BKV's writing. I haven't read Y yet, but having read all of Ex Machina and his Runaways, I'm pretty confident in agreeing with you.

The difference with his Bomb Queen is that there would actually be, you know, a point to it; I could see him making it an interesting look into a villain that won, without making it overly ridiculous or exploitative but still fun; I know Bomb Queen's supposed to be sexy, but too often, it just goes way, way beyond that and into just.. Bad taste. It's just depressing because Image are really kind-of more progressive than nearly any other company in terms of who and what they're publishing and what they're going to publish - at least compared to other companies - and yet there are just some embarrassing holdovers from their 90's period, like Liefeld and Bomb Queen.

Yeah, one of the things I hate about Bomb Queen is how close it is to being a story I'd want to read. There are some good concepts there, but they get lost in the main character's god-mode dickery and weird cheesecake art.

The thing is, even BQ's god-mode dickery and plot invulnerability could be funny and even hilarious under the right pen. As you point out, Vaughan would be a good choice - partially because of the weird twist on his Ex Machina set up, and partly because he knows how to make such humour and characters work.

Pair him with a decent artist, and it'd be great, because Bomb Queen isn't an awful concept, but the execution is like watching a Uwe Boll movie whilst people rip out your fingernails and your least favourite song is playing.

In fairness, he took over Swamp Thing for a while, and it allegedly sucks to the point of being retconned out by fans, like the final season of Gargoyles.

Again, allegedly. I've never read it for myself.
