Here's a third of issue 1 and four pages from issue 2 of SAUCER COUNTRY, Paul Cornell's new Vertigo ongoing series about UFO culture, politics, and what happens when they intersect.

Long answer: Some extra terrestrial force is communicating psychically with the guy, and using the images of humanity's First Contact information scribed into Pioneer 10 to nakedly clothe it into an image that won't scare the hair off his scrotum. I'm not making this up, we have our home address out there in interstellar space now.

Short answer: Smurf porn. Take your pick. :p

(I haven't read these books, I'm just speculating. They look fun though, I may have to go digging.)

Now, I'm not one to call RIP-OFF like some people ala Battle Royale and the Hunger Games.

But I feel like this is similar to Ex Machina. Cornell probably at least read some of it. This is not a bad thing, and it may only be superficial. But the juxtaposition of sci-fi and politics is interesting, as is the style of the main characters (both her and Hundred seemed very moderate)

But there is a key difference. Arcadia seems motivated by the need to do actual good, whereas Hundred was just a dick.

Personally I'd say that Green Arrow becoming mayor of Star City and attempting to juggle crime fighting and politics was a more direct Ex Machina reference, this is more in-line with the X-Files and possibly Dark Shadows.

I think that part of the background for this is the notion that the President gets to know the truth about Roswell and Area 51, part of the plot of Independence Day (although they didn't tell him until the actual invasion) and, in real life, something that Bill Clinton was asked after he left office (he said that there weren't any aliens under government lock and key, but by way of making the point that, yes, he'd asked.)

This looks really promising.
The Pioner 10 Couple thing is brilliant. Great visual (especially if they're flat/2D, but how would you depict that in comics?), and it symbolises first contact with aliens and everything.

especially if they're flat/2D, but how would you depict that in comics?

Show them from the side so the flat plane they're formed along is seen in perspective?

Like just having the perspective being off cus they're seen slightly from the side or entirely sideways which would just have them be a line?
I suppose they might be bendy, like the morlock Tommy that could turn 2d or Flatman, but that would kinda be less interesting/creepy in this case.

I like the art, and I think the Pioneer 10 couple is a hilarious idea for supporting characters! But the premise doesn't interest me at all.
