Hey. Hey. Hey, Wolverine? Wolverine? Remember the last you and the Phoenix hung out? Y'know, right after it saved all those mutant kids from the U-men? When it stopped you from burning to death in the sun? Nice to see you paying it back by trying to murder a teenage girl.

Also, fingers crossed on the divorce thing. Though since divorce is apparently illegal in the Marvel universe, maybe they'll just kill Storm off or have T'challa trade her to Mephisto for a pack of Bugles or something.

Because it will make T'challa so much more interesting.

(Yes, I am never letting that go.)

I have a theory. The pseudo-Phoenix currently in space has the power of sucking up QI points from everyone on earth as it approaches. This is why everyone acts like they're five and have memory problems.

I've always worked under the theory that any reality, real or fictional, has a set amount of IG points. Here in the real world, we can pretty dumb, but also pretty awesome, like the moon landing. But, when you have super-scientists, like Pym, Richards, and Doom, they use up all of the points. Thus, you get crap like Dark Reign.

Let's look at the current rate of PLANETS she's destroyed on her way to Earth on the last few issues leading up to AvX shall we?

Oh wait, they are not there anymore? And the lifeforms that lived on that planet are not there either? hmmm... I guess that in their death you their last words were "it's ok. I die because she/he/it is a hero."

have the planets themselves been destroyed?

the only one i know of is the one Nova witnessed and that one already started producing life immediately after it was destroyed

Is that even still in continuity?

Wolverine attacking Hope is pretty stupid, but I can see why he'd consider that necessary. From his POV, Hope has already gone into Dark Phoenix territory and ATTACKED HER OWN TEAM. He may already consider her too far gone -- and it doesn't help that Hope just flash-fried him.

The look on Cyclops face -- maybe he's starting to realize placing his hopes on an unpredictable sun-eating cosmic entity wasn't one of his brightest ideas.

well in this case she knows he can handle it. if she wanted to kill him she would have tried harder, she just wanted to take him out...

can someone post the scene where she takes out the team... i sorta feel that needs context....

Of course he can take it, but it still probably hurt like hell. And it probably is the only way to incapacitate him without killing him. I'm just saying that if Wolvie still had any doubts that Hope was dangerous, they are well and truly dead.

In fairness (up to a point I grant you), the previous times the Phoenix came to Earth it bonded with Jean Grey, who taught it humanity (for good or ill) and who was fundamentally a compassionate person, or Rachel Summers/Grey who had done dreadful things in her past, and was aware of the temptations of power (Who knows what might have happened had Wolverine NOT stopped her killing Selene in revenge way back when)

Hope isn't of the Grey line, and was raised by Cable (perhaps not most people's first choice as a father figure) to be a soldier/messiah. That's the sort of mindset that the Phoenix might react rather differently with.

The Phoenix itself is beyond humanity, the Phoenix bonded to a human is perhaps more dangerous, since it can be swayed by human failings.

Date: 2012-04-18 04:42 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] md84
Hope is a bit different in that she actually WANTS the power of the Phoenix. She's all set to be a cosmically empowered messiah. Jean and Rachel never asked to be hosts but made the best of the situation. In fiction, people desiring power, even if it's for altruistic purposes, is usually portrayed in a poor light.

true... but the fact of the matter is, they don't know.... they are not giving Hope the choice. the x-men at least, while having plans for her, are not like cap and the avengers coming in and saying, we are going to arrest her (or in wolverine's case Kill her) for something she MIGHT do IF she comes under the phoenix's influence.....

And Rachel constantly kept the Phoenix damped down to .00001% of its full potential, since otherwise it would have shattered her mind. After she finally let it loose it picked a fight with Galactus, only for him to point out that it was just as destructive to the future welfare of mortals as he was.

Feron hosting the Phoenix was more or less like normal Feron plus lots of power, from what little we saw of him.

Necrom hosting the Phoenix would have been a cosmic disaster, and that would have happened if Rachel hadn't beat him.

For that matter, if we're going by the Morrison run, the Phoenix wasn't fully activated until Magneto killed Jean and she resurrected in the future....where Sublime!Beast conned her into genocide. Then the X-Men snapped her out of it and she reset the entire timeline.

All of which is to say, yeah, when the Phoenix is coming, the only safe host is really really ethical and really really immune to the allure of power. There's plenty of reason to be worried about Hope in those areas.

To be fair, that's not the last time he met the Phoenix. That was in the craptastic Endsong/Warsong minis. Significantly less pleasant meeting.

actually the last time he hung out with the Phoenix was in Phoenix Endsong and Jean basically made him kill her as she resurrected herself till the Phoenix was so exhausted she felt in control.
