First five aren't extra-terrestrial, Martian Manhunter appeared in Legion Lost and GLC, and who knows, maybe at some point a member of Stormwatch did check out a certain crash landing in Kansas, figured it wasn't an real or immediate threat, and helped keep the government off Ma and Pa Kent's back.

To be fair, I think it shows that he did try, by making Hal an idiot who babbles quips around Batman, and moments like Hal and Barry acting Booster/Beetle by drooling over Wonder Woman, etc.

But yeah, pretty much missing the mark. Instead of being funny and lovable, he made them sound like frat bros.

I always thought that era's best time was the first year or two, where it had a good balance of comedy and quality adventure. After a while, it diverged so far into comedy and devolved into such stock parodies of themselves that it just annoyed the shit out of me.

From what I read, the first year or so of it was decent enough--they had the melding of humor and adventure down pat. The problem came when they veered more into comedy than adventure. I like comedy as much as the next guy, but...that's not what I read Justice League for.

This part took what was already a pretty fun issue, and made it a VERY interesting and cool one.

Not too drone on with the criticism's but i'm not feeling any "heart" with this league. There aren't any elements here that Johns seems to really be enjoying and playing with.

With the Morrison League it was the "big seven/greek gods allegory" concept and doing the impossible....With Johns/Goyer JSA it was referencing a shit ton of continuity, reconciling the old nature of the JSA with the new kids, and the familial aspect of the JSA

With Nu52 JLA, the heroes feel like assholes, the chemistry is forced, and the one big baddie was nothing more than a world class jobbing/going through the motions to get readers on board. The book feels too "corporate", too "lets throw our number one writer on this book".....If Johns had never written JLA back when he probably had much more choice and less pressure, why would he want to now?

hmmm i kinda like this league too... i think the first arch was supossed to show the league forming up, and the second arc is supposed to show the league as a close knit group, but because they were kinda "forged in fire" they have trust issues. But they are going to obviously open up, and i liked to see how they do that.

i THINK. that Jonn attacking them was supposed to be him testing them for some "big thing" which is what this panel indicated...

opening up with Ryan Choi Element Woman, Mera, the hawks, Deadman and the Mystery Woman, i know a few of those are definately light hearted. so i think this is the league gradually trusting the larger superhero community.

I'm just going to add here that I really don't like this art. It really doesn't have an organic look, like everyone came pre-packaged or something. That probably doesn't describe it well, but it's like the whole thing has a stick up its butt, way too stiff and awkward.
