I miss a "fun" League.
Be it the BWAHAHAHA-one or the Morrison one (with guys like Steel, Huntress, Plastic Man or that angel guy on board...)

I even liked the Dick/Donna/Congorilla/Starman league.

Yeah, same here!
As bad as the origin of that League was *cough*CryForJustice*cough*, it was at least an original roster with fun interactions.

Exactly!

I've heard some people say it's a bit bland (and, granted, their first big arc was half-JLA story), but hey, I like the characters, and they're genuinely heroic. I'm in the middle of catching up with them now.

Ironically, Johns mentioned in interviews that he's going for a tone in-between those very two versions of the League: The Bwahaha era and the Morrison era.

Well, it doesn't feel like that. At all.

This much grittiness, fighting around, pointless Darkseid arc...feels more like what Rob Liefeld would come up than any thing...

To be fair, I think it shows that he did try, by making Hal an idiot who babbles quips around Batman, and moments like Hal and Barry acting Booster/Beetle by drooling over Wonder Woman, etc.

But yeah, pretty much missing the mark. Instead of being funny and lovable, he made them sound like frat bros.

Yeah, that's the problem here!
It's a book featuring Frat Boys...

The only times I really laughed/chuckled were when Hal was holding the Lasso of Truth.

This might get me into trouble, but...I'm actually liking this JL more than the later Bwa-ha-ha Era.

I always thought that era's best time was the first year or two, where it had a good balance of comedy and quality adventure. After a while, it diverged so far into comedy and devolved into such stock parodies of themselves that it just annoyed the shit out of me.

You're one of the serious ones, aren't you??

Since all late 80s-early 90s big teams books were all serious and gritty 'n' stuff, I say it was a nice change of pace.

From what I read, the first year or so of it was decent enough--they had the melding of humor and adventure down pat. The problem came when they veered more into comedy than adventure. I like comedy as much as the next guy, but...that's not what I read Justice League for.
