Fans of Carol Danvers like her new Captain Marvel costume, but dislike her hair. But Carol has had stupid haircuts in the past.

An upcoming cover of her new solo series:

The first issue of her first solo series:

Must be when Dorothy Hamil was really popular.

From AVENGERS 348:

This is after Carol as Binary and Quasar saved the sun in Operation: Galactic Storm. It is why her Binary powers are so much weaker.

Carol's recuperation at Avengers Mansion is how she was able to mend fences with the Avengers after the whole "Marcus impregnation" incident from AVENGERS #200. It is really weird how mind-bogglingly stupid the Avengers were in that story. But we never really saw how Carol and the Avengers (that were in issue #200) patched things up.

Fanboy ramblings ahoy!

If *I* was going to write the new Captain Marvel series, I would reveal the whole Marcus incident *and* Rogue absorbing Carol's powers and memories was a plot/scheme by Kang or Immortus or some *other* time traveler. It would explain the Avengers being so dumb and Destiny *not* knowing Rogue attacking Carol would go so horribly wrong, leading to Rogue running away from Mystique. Why such a plan? Well, Carol becoming Binary prevents the X-Men from getting turned into the Brood, so there's that. But perhaps there is more to the story.

Oh GAG...her haircut was bad enough in the first place, now they're giving her a fauxhawk?!

What is it with Marvel and wanting to give all of my favorite female heroes (Songbird) such horrible looking hair? Come to think of it Mel now has a fauxhawk too...

The recent Songbird focus issue of Thunderbolts had someone comment on how she managed to get her hair looking like she did and she explained it was natural.

I have no problem with the color (and it is interesting that it was revealed to be natural) but in that same issue it ended with her sporting a fauxhawk. Bad enough when she was looking like Sonic the Hedgehog. That last panel she just looked ridiculous. I'm hoping it's only temporary.

I sort of assumed she was making the best of the fact she'd had part of her head shaved by the bad guy.

As for the hair, that surprised me too, but then, that issue (whilst gorgeous to look at) was full of oddities about Songbird. Like the notion her natural powers were solid sound, when that was NEVER her power. She didn't use Klaw's sound tech to mimic her old powers, she used it to give herself entirely NEW powers because she'd caused permanent damage to her larynx with her old powers.

I'm hoping that's the case too, that she just didn't want to look lopsided so gave herself a fauxhawk since it would be better than going around with half a bald head and the other half long hair. I really, really hope that's the case. Got my fingers crossed.

I'm still trying to figure out the exact mechanics of her powers too. I mean she apparently got her Mimi powers back but she can still manipulate solid sound even though she doesn't use the harness anymore? Did the implant put in her head contain the technology to allow her to do that without the harness so she wouldn't have to rely on it anymore and wouldn't be helpless without it like she has been since her 90s reboot?

The writer seems to have been working on the, mistaken, premise that Melissa's powers were always solid sound manipulation and she'd been using the carapace because of the natrual power burnout. So the surgery restored her "original" powers.

They also threw in the low level mind control power, now it's possible she learned that from her boyfriend Angar when they got the hang of their tag-team sonic illusion powers, but it was a new one on me.

I want to say she's always been able to sort of hypotize others with her powers, much the same way Banshee (it feels weird not calling her Siryn) does over in X-Factor, at least until she damaged her vocal cords.

But yes there's been a great deal about Parker's run that's been a tad inconsistent. I've been loving it but there does seem to be some ignorance about continuity in some cases. Heck the whole reason Mel ended up with her Sonic look is because Parker and Walker decided that she had to be the "dark" to Moonstone's "light", which had me wondering if the two had even ever read a Tbolts comic with those two in it before. Even before Ellis turned Moonstone back into a psycho and decided to turn her and Songbird into archrivals (which they weren't before...they couldn't stand each other but they weren't mortal enemies either) I just can't fathom how in the world anyone can ever get that, even from the early Busiek run.

So really I can't say I'm too suprised at his mistaken assumption of how Mimi's powers worked. Just I'm wondering how it can really be reconciled.

If I had to fanwank it, I think I'd make it that she always had the potential for the solid sound powers, but developing them required focus and dedication she couldn't be bothered to apply herself to, and would require more creativity and imagination than she could see being worth the effort.

Her Screaming Mimi powers (working off the same power source; her larynx) were cruder but much easier to use and worked for her during her time as a criminal with the Grapplers.

When she screamed herself raw she lost both her scream and the potential to ever develop the solid sound powers, but the carapace augmented her nascent abilities and brought the solid sound to the fore. Her time with the Thunderbolts has shown her how powerful she can, and she certainly has the mindset NOW.

Thanks, I'm told I'm quite good at such bullshitting explanations! :)
