ComicBookResources.com has the preview of #3, as the split in the argument on the Avenger's side is revealed and hot heads lock horns.

As I have argued before, Captain America only wants to take Hope to someplace where the Phoenix cannot reach her and contain the problem. Logan has a more... permanent.... solution.

Huh. At the very least, this reaction makes sense. Are you sure we're still seeing AvX here?

Are they going to those places searching for Hope though? Why there?

Given how few mutants there are left, those places are thin on the ground, in fact I can think of only two, and she's just left one.

Oh duh, of course. Brain slip. Though, don't know how viable an option that would be, considering the headmaster just tried to turn her into a shish kebab.

"When in doubt, kill it" really is Logan's default setting, isn't it?

Date: 2012-04-26 04:13 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] darkknightjrk
To be fair, in Uncanny X-Men, Hope says that she did agree with Logan that if things got out of hand and she's about to become dangerous with power, he should kill her if it means saving lives--the problem is she doesn't think she's at that point yet.

And hell, at least this makes more sense then the "kill it" mode Logan was in during Children's Crusade.

I wouldn't say it makes MORE sense, considering Wanda really did go off the deep end and kill a bunch of people, retcon or no retcon.

Wanda, yes, but he was willing to kill Billy too, and I would think even before setting up the school he wouldn't have done that--I mean, consider his experiences with characters like Rogue.

I don't think it's a good idea for Cap to be punching a guy with an Adamantium Skeleton in the jaw.

A vs. X may be amusing when the smoke clears but so far it's a lot like much Civil War was to me. A few interesting moments, but mostly a lot of people REALLY acting out of character so they can have their big super hero battle royale.

In a related note, this story makes no damn sense. I would think the odds of stopping Phoenix from destroying the Earth would be better with a host sympathetic to Earth trying to influence it. Odds are it wouldn't work, but what's stopping Phoenix from just trashing the planet now?

I'm just wondering what makes Logan think the Phoenix will just leave if Hope dies, rather than going berserk and nuking Earth?

Logan thinks the Phoenix will just go away without a potential host. Without someone to "latch onto" the Phoenix will just wander off into the universe. Which is sort of what happened the "first" time Phoenix died in
UNCANNY X-MEN #137.

Well, makes as much sense as anything else in this excuse for superheroes to punch each other.

I see the "stupid beam" that affected the X-Men last issue is now getting to the Avengers. Cap should know Scott's already tried the "hitting Logan to make him listen" trick. If it didn't work then, what makes Steve think it'll work now?

Because when Captain America's fists talk, people listen.

I think most Marvel writers/editors default to "everyone respects Cap, so they SHOULD listen to him". Now whether or not anyone actually does...

One can respect Cap while still pointing out that in the case of the Phoenix he's arguing against the experts. Both sets of experts.

I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying that writers occasionally are lazy and use convenient reasons to justify actions that make no damn sense.

You know, like Captain America busting Wolverine in the grill.

They should have just named this series

"A bunch of Marvel Heroes beating the snot out of each other for no good reason".

"A bunch of Marvel Heroes beating the snot out of each other for no good reason"

The only reason they didn't is because it wouldn't fit in the "title" blank on the order form.

From: [personal profile] starwolf_oakley
CIVIL WAR had a reason. Iron Man suddenly became a fascist and Captain America suddenly became an anarchist. Yes, it was somewhat more complicated than that, but it sure *seemed* that Cap was advocating no government for superheroes, which sounds like anarchy (not chaos) to me.

WORLD WAR HULK's reason was to show how everyone would be fucked when the Hulk got back to Earth. So he did and they were.

Wow

I am sorry, but thats just stupid.

They are on a transport going somewhere, have a disagreement, and so Cap punches him. I dunno man, when I disagree with a co-worker when they tell me "I don't agree with your idea", my default reaction is not to hit them with a chair.

I guess they did not want to spend panels with a protracted argument between them that would make sense to lead to blows. But still... And this is Brubaker? Man, I expect more from him then this. I hope the preview is just making this look worse then it really is.

Someone (I think it was at a girl-woner.org) used to have a pretty interesting thing about how in superhero comics any kind of conflict is going to be channeled into punching. These guys punching each other out is semiotically the same thing as them having a loud argument would be in a different setting.

Really what they should have done is throw Logan out an open door over some remote part of the US or over an uninhabited island. The fall wouldn't kill him and the time it'd take him to heal and get back into the fray would be enough time to actually get a good game plan together.

<a href="http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=53072>Too late</a>, sort of. Though to be fair it's the most sense-making tie-in I've seen for this crossover so far. And I'm fairly sure Land is having to actually <b>draw</b> Red Hulk and Colossus rather than just trace figures out of porn magazines. (Please, don't enlighten me if that's not the case!)

Given Land's used wrestling images to trace from before, when it comes to Colossus, I'd put good money on him just tracing wrestlers again. I'd love it if he used that same Triple H pose he keeps using.

They're all Marvel's architects, so the appeal is, I guess, to see each of them work on a series together; It worked for 52, after all. Of course, in this instance it just feels like a disjointed clusterfuck.

It almost seems like rotating script-writers. They all plotted the story together, each specific writer is doing the dialog for each specific issue. I think.

The lack of dynamism in Romita Jr's work lends the final panel an air of bland tedium. Paradoxically, I find this highly amusing. Truly, this is just another day at the office for Captain America. He's going through the motions; walking through the part. Nothing seems to penetrate his... heart.

I haven't been reading this (except here) because Superhero X vs Superhero Y stories bore me (I blame Civil War) but is Rachel involved in this storyline? In any fashion? Considering her own history with the Phoenix it would more than make sense for her to be there.

And I would be really P.O.ed if they kill off Hope as they way they bring back Jean. At this point Hope is a more interesting character (and with more potential).
