Spider-Men - more info about the crossover

USAtoday.com has further update as to who is the Big Bad that is bringing the Spider-men from two very different universes together.

"Mysterio, the nefarious magic man who has been a Spider-Man villain since the hero's earliest days, is the guy who finds a rift between the regular Marvel Universe and the alternate-reality Ultimate Universe, a plot device that is central to the upcoming Spider-Men."

If you read further into the story, it sounds like the writers really put some heart into this, a true "miles stone" (pun intended) for the heroes who wear the webs.

So, this is being labeled as an event that will impact both the Ult.-verse and the 616, involves Peter meeting the Ultimate versions of characters like Gwen Stacy...and the upcoming movie has Gwen as Peter's love interest...

How much do y'all want to bet that the big reveal in Spider-Men is that the Ultimate Gwen Stacy's going to make her way into the 616?

I hope they don't do that for a number of reasons, including but not limited to the fact that Ultimate Gwen is significantly younger then 616 Parker. By like, a lot.
But then, considering the lengths they went to to bring Ult! Fury into the 616, who the hell knows?

Quick question--how old is she right now in the Ult-verse? Plus they could kinda tip-toe around it--maybe Gwen falls for the 616 Peter and Peter doesn't want to go to prison.

I would say she's about the same age as 616 Gwen was when she died.

Well, that would put her at about college age, right? She'd certainly be legal.

Yes, but the age gap would be about 5-10 years, depending on what degree Peter got. Definitely squick more then a few people out.

Gwen was 18-20 when she died. According to Marvel, Peter is around 25. Logically, there's no way that's possible, but that's what they want. I don't think a 25 year old dating an 18 year old would raise too many eyebrows. Even a 30 year old dating a 20 year old wouldn't be too unusual.

Ult!Gwen's around the same age as Peter. Bendis always stuck to Ult!Peter being about fifteen throughout the vast majority of his run. And we saw him have just one birthday before he died, as I recall. So Gwen's about sixteen.

I thought they said that his whole Spider-Man career lasted 2 years? Otherwise, with the time skip at the end of Ultimatum, that's a whole lot crammed into less then a year.

No, she's still in high school. She's not even a senior yet, making Peter at least a decade her senior.

Plus, I would hope she wouldn't fall for 616 Peter because 616 Peter isn't nearly as good a person.

And no, I'm not counting OMD/BND, just because that wasn't the character being a bad person, but rather bad writing.

When it comes to stuff like BND/OMD and some of the stuff Peter's done since, bad writing becomes linked to the perception of the character. So when Peter comes out with wheatcakes bullshit, has sex with a woman in a hotel room they've commandeered whilst demanding they keep their masks on, rips Kraven's wife's face off (from what I remember) and numerous other pieces of bullshit - including stuff like letting the new Kraven think his roommate was Spider-Man - he's a bad character and person. Ult!Gwen is, also, too young for him and it'd just be completely skeevy and weird. Imagine Peter of the 616, who was basically defined by that fucking bridge incident, dumping all his expectations on a sixteen year old girl who doesn't know who the fuck he is, he has that little in common with her Peter.

A few things: He didn't rip her entire face, just kind of took the first few layers of skin off, which was understandable. She had just killed a young girl he knew, one of the people he trusted most, and his clone, who he saw as a brother. Plus, he was in terrible physical condition, and there was a lot of magic shit going on that may have affected his mind. And with the roommate thing, he was actually impersonating Spider-Man, irc. I don't remember him setting anything up. He was going around committing crimes dressed as Spider-Man. And while the bridge definitely greatly influenced him, I wouldn't say he is defined by it.

She was fifteen when she died in the Ultimate Universe, and is roughly 16, 17 years old now.

She went to school with Peter and I assume they were in the same grade. Nothing indicated otherwise. And Peter died just after he turned 16.

So unless there's a time-skip in USM coming, no way is she going to be a romantic interest for 616 Peter.

...um, far as I know, they didn't bring Ult. Fury to the 616 universe. He's been to the Supreme Power one, but never to 616 proper.

I think he means Marcus, who looks exactly like Ult Fury, and they are now actually calling him Nick Fury.

New character introduced in Battle Scars. During the series, it was revealed that he was the son of Fury, gained the Infinity Formula (while Fury lost his), lost an eye, and at the end shaved his head and grew a beard so he looks exactly like Ult Fury. He also now goes by Nick Fury, leaving the main to go die or something. I believe there was a post about this.

But then we'll find out that Ulti-Gwen's mother, who looks EXACTLY LIKE HER has been in stasis between dimensions all this time, and it will actually be SHE who joins Peter in the 616-verse, as Gwen's dying of a rare malady brought about by some encounter with a Spidey-foe!
