I only capped it as a bit of fun, but the Teen Titans Annual has brought it out

Now one of the things I've sort of admired about the DCnU is the whole lot of marketing they've indulged in, and yet they seem to be a little leery about cross-media promotions. Until now, or so I thought....

SPOILER ALERT... SPOILER ALERT... SPOILER ALERT... SPOILER ALERT... SPOILER ALERT... SPOILER ALERT...

This is just... WAY too gaudy. The black suits with neon trim might have worked, but with a consistently orange fiery background it's just... messy. (and the scanner has actually muted the colours)

Remember how the preview showed they were introducing Artemis to the DCnU. Great, we thought, a little whiter than she is in the YJ cartoon, but a nice nod to continuity and a chance for some cross continuity promotion.

(Oh and I interrupt the angst to point out that yes, that is the red Beast Boy in the next pic. WHY they're making him red just seems.... pointless, he's a green kid who turns into green animals. It's silly, it's nuts.. which is sort of the point, but as I've noted before, whimsy has no place in the DCnU)

Seriously, did they just fridge one of the stars of the TV show which is doing more good for the DC brand than the comic is? And at the hand of someone called "Fist Point"? Words really are failing me here... and I know a LOT of words.

You know, I've actually been really enjoying this series, to me it's been right up there with Wolfman/Perez and the 90s Young Justice...but I have to agree killing of Artemis was rather stupid.

Certainly not on a par with Perez/Wolfman IMHO.

For heavens sake, they're 8 issues in and they're STILL not remotely a team.

Do we know for a fact this was suppossed to be The New DCnU Artemis Crock, or was she just some disposable minion who happened to be named 'Artemis'? Just like I'm not entirely convinced that TT Lilith is suppossed to be The New DCnU Lilith - writers seem to have such a limited knowledge of the past and Lilith hasn't been active in a dog's age, it might just be the first random choice he made or that was suggested.

I thought about that, actually, and I'm not sure it really matters. This is a blonde Badass Normal named Artemis. Regardless of whether this is Artemis Crock, the reader is clearly meant to think she is, so the effect is the same.

The winged woman is Dawnstar, from Legion Lost. They're also here, with the implication by Harvest that he's the one behind their time slip. My pet theory is that he's some incarnation of The Time Trapper that we saw recently.

Kind of bizarre how I wrote an article earlier this week about how I kind of prefer the YJverse to the current DCU, only for DC to introduce a YJ version of one of their characters, only to kill her off in the same issue.

http://espanolbot.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/young-justice-is-better-than-regular.html

The YJverse might not be perfect, but at least the people there 1. aren't restricted as to which characters they can use, as Geoff Johns has given them permission to use the entire DC catelogue of characters, 2. actually have an overall plan for where the characters are going etc. so it doesn't come across as being purely random.

They even have a Jaime Reyes that actually damn well acts like Jaime Reyes!

As we never saw her last name and based on the little we heard of her (white pre-med student with no superhero connections) was nothing like the actual Artemis Crock from the comics, I think her name was just an easter egg. A very poorly thought-out Easter Egg.

I'm hoping they'll actually introduce a legit version of Artemis in the DCU, in Green Arrow perhaps. As much as I hate fridging of any kind, this Katniss rip-off didn't really leave much of an impression on me.

.....They killed..Artemis...i read this issue...and you know how in some movies or t.v. shows where they have those moments of hope of what seems to be a new level of badassery..but it's only for a moment at it's shot down in just a damn minute, the likes of which would leave someone watching with their mouths gapped open and trying to figure out what the fuck just happened. It's usually played for laughs, other times not so much, just shows that it's hopeless. I feel like that now...

I was hoping someone would catch that, it does sound hilariously 90's.

It reminds me of a thing Marvel did in one of their "Year in Review" back in the 90's when even they recognised the absurdity of their names. It looked a little this

And this Teen Titans issue also reintroduces another classic name from the era in the form of "Ripclaw"

What is it with the Titans and red costumes? Even before Flashpoint, we had Superboy's black T-shirt and red Superman insignia, Cassie's predominantly red outfit, Robin's red and black costume, Kid Devil. The team desperately needed Blue Beetle if only for the color contrast.

Beast Boy being red is something that connects him to The Red in Animal Man (Vixen?), Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing. He's connected to all that now, which actually makes sense.

It seems though like Teddy Altman in Marvel his animal morphing will be composite/chimeric now? Like he just won't turn into one animal at least judging by some Booth character art.

Again, the Red is it's name, not it's only concept of colour. Life on Earth comics in many shades, including green (Aligators for starters). Making him LESS like the relatively high profile character that he is thanks to cartoon exposure just seemsa ... bizarre choice to make stylistically and from a marketing POV.
