Date: 2012-05-30 12:00 am (UTC)But maybe you are right, Barry was the common dull guy on the team, the interaction with other charaters make the series funny. The thing that bothers me in this comic is the broken marriage of Iris and Barry, they were an Item way before Lois/Clark (that was the time of the multiple superman girlfriends).

Date: 2012-05-30 12:42 am (UTC)Making Barry single, like virtually every other comic character out there today, makes him stand out. It makes him stand out because he's like everyone else.
Come on, this is basic comic writing logic!

Date: 2012-05-30 01:48 pm (UTC)On the clasic comics he was the Married Guy, wich make him stand out, of course I understand that was looong ago, but that and the fact he was a "common guy" (not the playboy Bruce Wayne or Ollie traveling to find america). Of course in the silver age the superheros were little more than the suits they had, the best stories (Those with Hal Jordan) were more focused in the costume side of the characters, everything is archived on the Showcase classics

*sigh* I miss Wally and Linda.

Date: 2012-05-30 03:57 pm (UTC)I'm of an age where Barry WAS the Flash I read growing up. I still found him fairly dull then, and they gave him a pretty good send off in Crisis, and I've yet to see anything which properly justifies his return as the ONLY Flash.
Wally was a far more interesting character because of, amongst other things, the fluctuating powers, his fluctating life, his lack of a secret identity and others.

Date: 2012-05-30 04:54 pm (UTC)And the TV series was a take on the character like Batman the Brave and the Bold was a take on Batman, Barry was still pretty much Barry, you can change things around if you are inteligent, for example the whole Young Justice series.
If something bores me is the series... but please lets not get into that.
