I believe Piper was introduced last issue; this issue is where we find out David's his partner.

Agreed, Francis Manapaul would be the only reason I could see to buy this book, unless things have changed and they've managed to give Barry Allen something approaching a personality.interesting enough to care about.

Barry? Interesting personality?

I understand the words, but they just don't make sense strung together in a sentence like that...

Yeah cause a character with 25 years of clasic adventures every one so much "misses" had no real interest. Any way the most close to Barry Allen there has been after his death was the TV series at the early 90s and maybe that one episode of the Brave and the Bold.

But maybe you are right, Barry was the common dull guy on the team, the interaction with other charaters make the series funny. The thing that bothers me in this comic is the broken marriage of Iris and Barry, they were an Item way before Lois/Clark (that was the time of the multiple superman girlfriends).

I have to disagree about the marriage, though.

Making Barry single, like virtually every other comic character out there today, makes him stand out. It makes him stand out because he's like everyone else.

Come on, this is basic comic writing logic!

Well in the TV series, early 90, Barry was single. That was the series that make me interested in Flash. So there is nothing wrong in making him single if you do It right.

On the clasic comics he was the Married Guy, wich make him stand out, of course I understand that was looong ago, but that and the fact he was a "common guy" (not the playboy Bruce Wayne or Ollie traveling to find america). Of course in the silver age the superheros were little more than the suits they had, the best stories (Those with Hal Jordan) were more focused in the costume side of the characters, everything is archived on the Showcase classics

Just the fact that he is a rather dull and methodical kind of guy makes him interesting since it's a huge contrast to his power set.

Well there were people who said Jaime Reyes was the dullest character in his own series, in fact Jaime Reyes was cut out for low sales, and now is a fan favourite while his new comic sucks. I guess writers dislike how Barry is the comon good guy, he doesnt fit in with the drama.

So less Mar-dun and more Mahr-dohn, then.

Weather Wizard there's neatly incorporated into the issue, I have to say.

On the one hand... PIPER! And not an angsty runaway criminal, yay!

On the other hand...Barry. Who bores me into apathy.

*sigh* I miss Wally and Linda.

Im really obsed that nobody has read Showcase the Brave and the Bold with Barry or seen the old TV series. I mean there are not bad characters just bad writers... well OK there are awfull characters, but Barry Allen wasnt one of them. You just have to make him work.

Why are you assuming we haven't read those issues, I know I have and I doubt I'm alone there. (And saw the TV series first time around, but the Barry there wsa different from the Barry in the comics, about the only thing they had in common was a name and a job at a Police Lab, he was single for starters)

I'm of an age where Barry WAS the Flash I read growing up. I still found him fairly dull then, and they gave him a pretty good send off in Crisis, and I've yet to see anything which properly justifies his return as the ONLY Flash.

Wally was a far more interesting character because of, amongst other things, the fluctuating powers, his fluctating life, his lack of a secret identity and others.

I found the lack of secret identity the only inherent thing of him that was interesting, the rest was done by Waid. Wally West run as the flash was genious, but as a character he was not outstanding. Any way I argue that if Barry Allen bores you Its not the character you should be blaming.

Whether it's the character or not is irrelevant, the end result is a dulll title, featuring a character that there was absolutely no pressing reason to bring back.

Again, It doesnt matter if he comes back, the Issue is what you do with Him.

It DOES matter if he comes back because it's undoing the only interesting thing they did with him in the ten years prior to his death; They actually dared to kill off one of their (vaguely) high profile characters.

Date: 2012-05-30 09:14 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] gerardotejada
Its OK as long as you understand what Im trying to say. I agree thats there is no point making Him come back if he is going to do nothing. Even If for diferent reasons we agree on that.

But remember (please not, please forget) Wally had stoped beign Flash, Bart was Flash for a time.

Any one can bring a character back from the dead, the thing is to know what to do with him. Im against the whole "Barry bores me" as an argument, It shouldnt be.

And the TV series was a take on the character like Batman the Brave and the Bold was a take on Batman, Barry was still pretty much Barry, you can change things around if you are inteligent, for example the whole Young Justice series.

If something bores me is the series... but please lets not get into that.
