Date: 2012-06-06 12:00 pm (UTC)...BUT. There were also many, MANY good comics that came out in the 90s that were not the epitome of grimdark, big guns and patches. I once listed some of them in a thread past. For every crappy comic of the time, there were many great ones, too.
Neil Gamain's Sandman? 1989-1996
Jame Robinson's Starman? 1994-2001
Kurt Busiek's Astro City? 1996-2010
Mike Mignola's Hellboy? 1993-2012
I could go on. Bone. The Authority. Preacher. The Invisibles. Mark Waid on the Flash. Busiek's Thunderbolts. All of Milestone comics. Planetary. Transmetropolitan. Marvels. Kingdom Come. Busiek and Perez's Avengers run. Giffen's LSH. And so on.
The problem is that many folks only remember stuff like Image creators getting on jeans commercials, and not much of the quality stuff that came out. The 90s was actually a great time for comics...it just all came crashing down.
Loved this series..
Date: 2012-06-06 10:37 pm (UTC)Though you've missed my own favourite parts..(understandable given how much great stuff there is in this one..) Always loved that shot of the Alien try to bite Lois and smashing it's teeth on Supes arm..(complete with the Supes sign on his bandaged arm)
And the thought of a chest burster failing to burst Supermans chest and him having to regurgitate it instead was incredibly amusing. Man of Steel indeed..
