Not BatFamily related (sorry fellow Steph and Cass fans) solicit news! Also, I can't believe I haven't seen anyone else post this. Anyway, my childhood self is extremely happy, because after twenty-five years, she's finally back!

• In this new series featuring the long-awaited return of AMETHYST, Amy Winston leads a strange life on the road with her mother. She’s about to learn why it’s all been necessary when she discovers she’s the lost princess of Gemworld — and has powerful enemies hunter her!
• AMETHYST is written by Christy Marx, best known for her work on animated TV series including G.I. Joe, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more, as well as the comics series Sisterhood of Steel.
• And in the backup story set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the monstrous warrior BEOWULF is charged with finding and defeating the evil Grendel.

Being that I know nothing except the mythological Beowulf, I have to ask, does he have previous DCU presence or not?

I haven't yet decided if I'm going to jump on this(still have to decide how many titles I'll end up dropping on the 12th issue) as it comes out. But at the very least I'm going to immediately buy the collected edition of the first volume which will come out concurrently.

I do have quite the high hopes for this title.

I am torn between giddy excitement and the ill favour I have for DC

I am really pleased they're taking a chance on her, though.

What? How is this possible? DC actually doing something apparently sensible?

No, wait, let me guess. Christy Marx has massive medical bills, and agreed in economic desperation to put her name on a DC comic that will end up rewritten grimdark by the editors. The question is, when will it go bad--
--from page 1?
--on page 21 of the first issue?
--7 issues in?
--at least a full year in?

Says something that I have such pessimism about this company. :(

I'm going to look at my old copies of Amethyst and woo them with fan-boy love, and ignore this. Yes, I share my same dread about they current direction DCnU is taking things.

Beowulf was kind of DC's equivalent of Marvel's Conan comicbook line back in the... 1970s, I believe? He did get a reference in Young Justice in the episode where Secret showed up, where it appeared that B had turned Grendel's arm into a magical swordhilt.

All Beowulfs should have Ray Winstone's accent though, by order.

I can't believe I haven't seen anyone else post this

It was posted, but as it was comic news rather than a solicit it was done over on no_scans_daily

As if a Jem-ophile like me would have overlooked it! :D

While I have some dread, I'll buy it to show my support for her rather than dismiss it because I'm afraid it MIGHT ruin the character. If it's a giant cluster frick, well then I just lost a few bucks.

omg she LOOKS SO GOOD! and she's wearing PANTS! love it love it love it. Now if they just won't eff her over like they did in Flashpoint - and bring my Raven back into the DCnU - MAYBE i can start forgiving them for Secret Seven!

I noticed the costume too! It is SO well designed and actually covers up.

See comic creators, that's how you make women's costumes. Just color the legs and midriff purple! And people think it's impossible and won't look good....

Written by the same person who did "Jem"? Does that mean her one major drama is having odd double two-timing relationship with her boyfriend, and have to battle a rival superhero whom she could easily call the cops on but don't and we won't see a redeeming factor in said rival till the very last issue out of the blue?

Well, she also did Sisterhood of Steel, so she does have experience with badass sword-swinging women (in practical clothing, too).
