JiM I AM GETTING YOU.
Have they collected them yet or must I get the issues one by one?

Journey into Mystery #639 darlings. The preview's up on CBR. Key words are "trash can of doom" and "I'm not your secretary, Loki".

All it lacks is a comment about getting or staying off of his lawn. Then again, the addition may have been gilding the lily.

Truly the most powerful threat in the Marvel Universe: embittered old people.

I don't understand how this series gets more perfect in ways I don't expect all the damn time. Gillen should share some of that magic with the guys running AvX.

Oooooh, the last panel on the last page of the preview.... very nuanced mischief in those eyes....

... what are you up to?

Magical cartography it looks like, but I'm not sure what he's up to. I don't think he's got the sheer oomph to cut modern gods off from their power sources. My first thought is that he's going to try to pull a Mists of Avalon and move Otherworld further away from Britain so it'll be out of the range of the Manchester Gods, but that would also lesson the influence of the traditional pantheon. In short, it would save lives but everyone would hate it.

I think Loki might be trying the 'villain" ploy... that while gods may honor pacts made by the pantheons, demons may not.

OR

He may be trying to create villains of his own for the Manchester Gods to fight.

IDK. Throwing villains into the mix doesn't seem to jive with cutting down on the fatalities. That sounds more like High Magic.

i think they've only collected the fear itself tie-ins, which is a bummer because i think this is exactly the sort of series that reads even better in tpb.

Wait, I’m confused. I thought June 6th issue (Loki pointing on cover) was #639? June 20th (evil city-god on cover) is also #639?

LOVE THIS SERIES...

This is totally a blatant rip-off of Gaiman's American Gods, and for once I don't mind a bit. It's the kind of story this series can do better than anyone else, and it's handling it extraordinarily well so far.

I liked AG a lot, but I thought the book suffered from a lack of descriptive detail. A lot of the time I couldn't really visualize the characters or the setting. It was like they were wandering around one of those mist-shrouded empty sets that used to appear in episodes of the first two Doctor series when the budget got tight.

Granted, when the action picked up I didn't notice it as much, but it was still annoying.

With a lot of Gaiman's novels I feel that he needs someone to illustrate it.

It's not so bad in his children's books, even without illustrations, but his grownup prose novels often feel unfinished.

Not really in AG. I knew what a lot of the places looked like because I had either been there or somewhere like them, so I was able to extrapolate based on experience, but it was frustrating how little there was in the book. I nearly resorted to writing down every snippet about the main character's description so I could finally piece together what he really looked like.

Anansi was tall and thin, as he's portrayed in the folk tales.

Yeah. I was picturing Shadow as the wrong race until wayyyy late in the book, which caused some cognitive dissonance. I wish I'd had a more accurate mental picture of him from the start.

Huh, I never thought in these terms before, but this is the exact same feeling I came away with from AG. "Mist-shrouded empty sets" is eerily similar to how I'd describe the world in that story. Thanks for articulating my thoughts for me XDXDXD.

I dunno! Personally, I'm heavily influenced by the themes, style and flavor of Russian literature, so I end up seeing everything through those glasses -- for better or for worse -- and I'm sure we all have those sorts of biases/expectations. Nothing inherently right or wrong about our perceptions...they're just...there ^^.

I enjoyed AG (although Neverwhere's still my favorite of his novels), and any complaints I had about it are more general complaints with Gaiman's tendency to rehash the same idea (at least as I see it). As a long-time fan of Odin and Loki's escapades as blood-brothers in mythology, I certainly enjoyed that aspect XDXDXD.

Boo! I don't think he's ever going to revisit the Neverwhere 'verse, but I'd be excited if he did :X. Much more excited than about the rapture or an Apple release ;).

Always imagined King Arthur as a bit more noble and respectable, like ye olde captaine brittania with a sword. But this is cute.

Do I spot some Vertigo cameos in that bar? I thought I saw Constantine, Death, and that grotty reporter sitting behind Damien, and some later ones whose names IDK.
