Bleeding Cool has the scoop as Marvel begins to ...

I can't even bring myself to write it.

They are going to follow DC's foot steps. (Sort of....)

From the article:

"The new Entertainment Weekly, as well as confirming Bleeding Cool’s report that the relaunch would be called Marvel NOW!, provides details of how the relaunch is going to work. Specifically that one book will be launched or relaunched every week from October through to February 2013, totalling twenty-two titles, beginning with the previously reported Uncanny Avengers and including Avengers, All New X-Men and a number of titles, presumably, our Marvel NOW! Rumour Checklist.

We’ve seen how characters look to be completely redesigned, teams changed and titles amended. However it is worth reminding readers that, unlike DC’s reboot, the continuity will not be rebooted…"

Continuity not altered?
Then WHY relaunch? Yes, the damage has been done, but don't make it worse? You survived DC's attempt to clean house and still held your own.

Let the titles, characters and stories work. Don't go for the cheap gimmicks!
I have that bad taste of the 90's in my mouth, and it took me 20 years to wash it out.

Will Peter be married to MJ again?
Will Dr. Doom have a Master?
Is the Age of Apocalypse (version 2) going to stick around?

will all of these terrible things that have happened be corrected?

And who or what is this?

Is that BANNER?

I care even less than before. I don't read anything now from Marvel except JIM(which is great) or what Matt Fraction writes, and even then I'm enjoying CASANOVA a lot more than IRON MAN or THOR. (the latter is totally incoherent and goes nowhere, and the former is stretching out a story that could have been done in half the issues) Marvel is one big comic split into many titles and I just. Don't. Care. Anymore.

Fact is that between Marvel being like that, and DC mostly now(except Snyder and Lemire) being so joyless, corporate and ugly, I'm getting to the point where I'm done with the mainstream again. Which I'm grateful to them for.

though they are arguably the two most powerful women evern in Marvel....

Sue seems to be in a combination Fantastic Four FF costume....

though... Jean is Young Jean and probably by default not as powerful....

I wondered about that though Widget is such a confusing character I'm not sure s/he'd be one I'd return.

I also wondered whether it was a new helmet for Hazmat, since it appears to have the radiation warning sign on it, and we just couldn't see the rest of her.

Or it might be a new Radioactive Man outfit perhaps?

I guess that depends on how you look at it. Outside of event-titles, even the top-sellers have a hard time breaking 60K. Part of that is just the usual dire DM circumstances, but if you're looking at the Distinguished Competition and seeing that huge sale-spike they had when they did a universe-wide reshuffle with lasting positive sales benefits for several titles, I'm sure it becomes hard not to justify responding in kind.

And this is why mainstream comics should die. Sorry guys, it's over. You're not longer relevant, and that's okay. Really! Everything has its season, and the age of super hero comics has passed.

Please let these franchises die with dignity. They really deserve better than you pissing on their graves then making their corpses rise to dance the fucking Macarena.

I don't see the problem. Yes, it's utterly pointless, but by and large, it seems no different what they've done with the franchises in the past. X-Men's already been relaunched several times over - they've just only had the balls to renumber Uncanny recently - and the Avengers has been relaunched twice in the past ten years. It's no different than them fiddling around with the title of a book, like Thunderbolts becoming Dark Avengers or whatever.

Why! Why! Why! Why are people declaring bloody murder about a publicity stunt to draw attention to new titles and creative teams!

There is no retcon! Just new titles and creative teams! And horror of horrors they are advertising it! How dare they want to inform us about their products!

Oh and some new costumes. We must destroy them and all they love.

It's a stunt to get people to buy more comics. And if one of those is a Guardians of the Galaxy ongoing then I'm getting it.

I like this. I can't help but be excited that they are shaking things up.

Having seen more accurate and precise information elsewhere:

Avengers by Hickman, yay!

All new X-Men by Bendis, meh. More because of Bendis than because of the premise, which could be interesting though.

Uncanny Avenngers... errr? Not sure I dig. Depend how it builds up from AvX which depends of how AvX ends.

and that cyclops isn't the one from the past. he's never had acostume like that, so that has to be Post SVX Cyclops...

I understand why they are doing the whole Marvel NOW! The Avengers movie was a huge success and they want to try and benefit from it. But the timing is just weird. Schism was a year ago and Uncanny X-Men and WatMX are still so new. And they relaunched all the Avenger series only two years with the Heroic Age stuff.

I'm actually kind of interested in how they will try and get new readers. The new 52 failed in that way, and I want to see how they promote all of this. And I hope they will have more woman led teams or women solo books (other than Captain Marvel).

All I'm asking is "why?" I thought this is what Ultimate Marvel/Ultimate Comics was for.

And if they really want to cash in on the universe created by Marvel Studios (or even 20th Century Fox) why not just create "another universe" for those canons to exist in instead of radically altering 616 (again or at all).

oh wow. um.

I'm not actually opposed to this in in principle, and some of the ideas sound downright interesting. I remember back in the mid-90s there was a New Mutants mini with basically the same principle as All New X-Men that wasn't too bad. Echoing others re massive event fatigue, but maybe this will slow it down for a little while, or at least keep events confined to their own comics.

It's the renumbering that pisses me off. Can't really rightly say why it annoys me so much, but high issue counts are a badge of honour. ;; also NOW! is a pretty goofy label, but I guess it tested well with market research or something.

What's the big deal? All they're doing is launching one new title a week over several months (Oct-Feb) with new team rosters and new creative teams, which we already know they're going to do anyway, and they're great changes. I for one, will be pulling an Avengers book for the first time in yeeaaaaars just because of Hickman.

Who cares about issue numbers, honestly?
