I find it interesting Morrison writing an encounter between nu52 Superman and Batman. Considering Morrison has sort of defined modern Batman in many ways, showing the dynamic between them post-reboot is sort of nice.

Morrison's Action comics is sort of weird in a way. There is no "strong" Superman post nu52, no one has really defined the character at all. Morrison is taking a meandering approach to the book, and seems to be in no hurry to put a flag down and say "this is Superman!" (and really, I am glad for it). I get the sense the is enjoying playing around with the "motivation" of Clark and not as interested in the Superman side of things.

With Superman being such an icon however for DC, I think some writer needs to do the "reference" version of him post-nu52 and I think that is ending up Morrison just by default as all the other books being so weak. If that happens, that will be two of the big three DC icons defined by Morrison.

Leaving Wonder Woman. Who, while I really enjoy the new book, I think the way she is being done in the nu52 is making her lose her place as one of the big three. Then again, there are rumors of the hyper-sexual Wonder Woman coming from Morrison, so we will see there as well. Perhaps his plans for her involve writing himself into the story again along with a hyper-sexual Wonder Woman and hoping for some good reality altering again al-la Invisibles.

This is interesting. Clark as a firefighter?

And the World's Finest dymanic is refreshing: Batman's curt but not telling Supes to get out of his city, and he's clearly interesting in the space station.

That panel with Supes contemplating the list of planets looks like Henry Cavill, so a bit of a tie-in with the movie, whenver the heck it's coming out, I suppose.

Oh, yes, I liked that, too. I don't mind brusque Batman as long as he's being civil about it. ;) It's nice to see that DC is keeping the Superman/Batman friendship and not making us wait almost a decade before they even talk this time around! After the last major reboot in '86 they barely spoke to each other for five years except to snarl at each other.

I hate the often contrived scenarios in comics where they dislike each other or outright fight (the latter usually in a poor mimicry of Frank Miller in the Dark Knight Returns).

I agree. Considering their background and agendas, Superman and Batman should be friends - even though Batman doesn't really express that in conventional ways.

True, Batman prefers some odd methods of expression but it's better than outright hostility. :) And they've been friends for literally decades in 'real' time, so it's nice to see. I miss their old books, World's Finest or Superman/Batman. It was the only one I bought on a regular basis in the past few years.

I hate the often contrived scenarios in comics where they dislike each other or outright fight (the latter usually in a poor mimicry of Frank Miller in the Dark Knight Returns).

Ugh! I know people love Frank Miller but I loathe his stories and characterizations.

It's not an identity that makes sense. Not only would his invulnerability and speed be obvious very quickly, but his need to go everywhere and save everyone would make for much worse absences.

Also: the building he rebuilds. About that. "Do you know how much these homes will be WORTH now?" asks an excited reporter. Yes, did Clark give that any thought? And that all those people who lived there will now be priced out of it and be homeless anyway? (also: you're telling me he knows everything about masonry, electric work, plumbing, insulation, and every part of the building codes? This Clark, here? It makes even less sense when the Flash does it, granted, and he's done this a few times) Clark may have actually benefited the evil Mr. Glenmorgan here.

I mean, between Clark and the people on the ground, Grant treats building an apartment building like they were raising a barn. I don't know if Grant understands but...there's more to it than that and nothing those people could really have helped with.

Oh, and Lois' death/injury: nice afterthought. And by the way, I was wondering: who IS this kid all of a sudden? Is it just Grant's weirdly sloppy storytelling in this book that made me forget if she'd appeared up to this point?

An additional point: not in this issue but last, Green Lantern was surprised Batman is a billionaire. I wonder about that given that--for no reason at all--Bruce revealed himself to Hal when the JL first met. And I THINK Bruce is probably well-known. I just mention it because DC is now so tightly editorially top-down that it's amusing to see all the errors they make even more often.

SO FEW THINGS MAKE SENSE HERE. I feel like I suddenly understand those people who always complain Morrison's work makes no sense. In this case, yes, I agree.

Yeah, but old Superman you'd have assumed DID know such things. If he remade a whole building you wouldn't think much about it because he's God. But this is Big Superboy. Who isn't. Even a little. Who doesn't even seem particularly smart.
