If anybody on Earth could make that happen, it would be Lois.

Butchery of the English Language 101

That is not what "sour grapes" MEANS.

"Sour grapes" is you saying your goal isn't worth it after you've tried to attain it. It's not "whining about not winning".

The meaning has shifted, as words tend to do, sour grapes does more commonly mean "losing gracelessly".

According to Wikipedia, the "sour grapes" may have been improperly translated, and the fox really meant "unripe grapes."

Study of older versions of the fable suggest that "unripe" might be a more literal translation, the idea being that the fox would come back later to try in earnest. The word "unripe" may have been replaced with "sour" by the fable's Victorian translators since the word "unripe", in Victorian society, might have been interpreted as an innuendo suggesting an as-yet unripe woman.

That sounds far more like Pyrrhic Victory to me

Pyrrhic victory is a victory that comes at a cost; sour grapes simply means that, being unable to recah your goal, you dismiss it as unworthy.

Huh. I never noticed it before, but "The Daily Whisper" was also the name of the tabloid trash mag in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I always thought they made the name up for the TV show.

I have to say, the name "Bambi Bonanza" is worthy of Ian Fleming!

I'm hoping the story ends up with Lois realising Bambi is actually faking the whole "ditzy blonde" thing and actually IS as hardnosed a journalist as she is.

It looks like Lois already suspects as much. She calls it Bambi's "dumb blond routine."

"Routine" as in performance or act, is how I took it.

Or that she didn't write the article at all. Because I don't think acting like an idiot around your colleagues would be very helpful professionally.

I think it depends on time and place.

If you work in a very sexist place where the men in charge actively oppose female workers, acting like a ditz could convince them that you aren't a "threat", and they might leave you alone to do your job in peace.

It's disgusting as hell, but sadly not unheard-of.

Bambi: Haha, if you were an actual competent reporter like I am, you'd see that this is all a presence! I'm not even a real blonde!

Lois: As your publisher probably knows.

Bambi: Oh, that's it!

*they fight*

Dammit, now I want to know the rest of the story... What's the deal with Bambi? Is she reallt competant, yet pretends to be a dumb blond to get in good graces with her clearly chauvanistic pr*ck boss, or is she being ghost-written by someone else?

Darnit, don't leave us hanging!

Her story was ghostwritten by Superman in order to "teach Lois a lesson."

...

Well, maybe not. But if this was a Silver Age story that is most definitely how it would be.

Looks more Bronze Age to me. Lois is focused on reporting instead of getting Superman to marry her. And she appears to have two brain cells. Plus, the art.

Well yeah. Also note that asshole-of-assholes Steve Lombard is present.

I didn't say this was a Silver Age story. I said that was what would have happened if this was a Silver Age story.:)

Anyone know the issue number for this? I really want to know what happens in the rest of the story (sidenote: I really don't like her hair. I can take the flip or the bangs but not together).

Thank you muchly.

Superman Family 207. Agreed about the hair, though the artist almost makes it work in certain panels.

I think that's quite a testament to the artists.
