Legion Lost #11 - Echo-o-o-o-o-o....
Jul. 12th, 2012 12:20 amNew issue of Legion Lost out today; I bring you a whopping 1 page, which introduces an...interesting...new concept.
Previously on LOST: The Losties escaped The Culling with their dignity mostly intact *and* a new time bubble. The bubble had some presets they couldn't work around, though, and took them to Harvest's version of the future: a burned-out dystopia where the Legion HQ was in ruins. The Losties raided HQ for supplies and fresh duds and tried to go back a couple of years, only to wind up back where they started in the 21st century.
Meanwhile, Steve Trevor ordered the commander of that metahuman research facility that captured Gates and Yera to take down the Losties with prejudice. She squeezed their friend Oz into luring them into a trap, put Oz double-crossed her with a quick warning. Nonetheless, Timber Wolf ended up getting shot.
This issue: Oz leads most of the Losties to the Orchid Clinic to fix up T-Wolf, where they make a new friend in the clinic's proprietor Dr. Shaleeka Mosley, while Yera and Tyroc cover their retreat. Wildfire flies around being emo about his damaged containment suit, and gins up an imaginary attraction between Dawnstar and T-Wolf to give him an excuse to push her away. Alastor, the bad guy they were chasing waaay back in issue #1, reappears.
And while T-Wolf is putting his Loganesque super-healing to good use, he remembers something through the haze of painkillers that is probably Germane To The Plot.

...okaaaay.
It's a concept, I guess. Harvest made some crack to Yera about "her masters at Echo," so presumably she's the case worker in question.
What do we think about this as a social service plan, guys? And is it too soon to start placing bets on which DCnU denizens might be Echo placements?

Date: 2012-07-12 06:48 am (UTC)I am on the fence as to whether I like it or not. On one hand it's very creative and a new take on the 'displaced time-traveller' thing. On the other hand, sending someone into a more primitive time to protect them seems a bit counter-intuitive? Especially given how generally safe and orderly the Legion's time is compared to ours. I may need to have a think about it some more...
On another note, was there any lead-up to how this was presented, or did Brin literally just wake up and say "hey, here's our next plot point!" It just seems like a weird thing to bring up out of nowhere..?

Date: 2012-07-12 10:58 am (UTC)No, there was a page prior to this of Brin hallucinating/flashbacking while under the painkillers, to dropping off a super-prisoner to the SPs and being told said prisoner had rolled on a bigger criminal and earned himself a ticket to Echo. It was vague enough dialogue I didn't feel it was worth posting; this page is more on point.

Date: 2012-07-13 09:30 pm (UTC)Personally, if I was going to protect witnesses via time travel, I'd stash them in the future. If they're from 3012, then hand them over to the Science Police of 3062, when the people they're testifying against are already dead or in prison.
And wait...if you've got time travel, why do you need to shelter your witnesses at all? Just send them forward in time to the actual moment of the trial!
