Mark Waid brought back the multiverse with The Kingdom in the late-ish 90s. Since the multiverse was back Grant Morrison wrote JLA: Earth 2 (Since Earth 2 didn't exist, Earth 3 moved up one space, but it recently had to move back, alas what a short lived promotion.)

Then I don't know what happened because the multiverse appeared as late as Kurt Busiek's JLA run, but still DC announced Infinite Crisis and everybody went nuts because it was going to bring the multiverse back... and the whole thing is all kinds of retarded, but that's how DC works. DC is like God, but instead of mysterious, it's retarded.

But in short, that's why Earth 3 appeared before IC.

I used to post as Cissie King in the old SD, but I haven't created an account here yet.

Okay, that was too bitchy, but THAT part of FC is the less complicated of them all.

The multiverse is just like it was before Final Crisis started, but now without monitors. Nothing happened to it. TA-DA!!!!

Nowhere I guess. They just don't monitor anymore, or at least they no longer go around hunting people for leaving their universes.

> and what about that scheme of Monarch's ?

That was Countdown, and I don't think even DC knows what that was all about.

> Batman has taken up cave painting as Gotham decends into chaos ?

Gotham doesn't even exist back then, so it's not descending into anything. You gotta think it in four dimensions.

Considering he left an army of sidekicks behind, I don't get why the place is falling to pieces. But anyhow, there is not much he can do from the stone age. He either builds his own time machine or waits to be rescued. Either way, he'll return to Gotham when he returns to Gotham.

I don't know if he left as much as "got there really, really early."

Well, before Hypertime writers couldn't use parallel universes in DC stories. A universe where everybody is evil, a zombie, has a beard was almost impossible.

Some writers managed to pull it off from DCU Vertigo books where they didn't care about stupid limiting rules like that, or they showed a parallel universe but called it a "pocket universe" just so everyone could pretend it was something else; because for some reason a certain number of dumb fans had convinced themselves that the multiverse was a bad thing and that it was too complicated for their feeble minds and that's why it had to go away. Never mind that Marvel had a multiverse and nobody complained; probably not even the same fans who complained about DC but also read Marvel.

So, Mark Waid presented the concept of Hypertime to bring back the concept of multiverse without undoing Crisis on Infinite Earths. And that's how we got Grant Morrison's Earth 2 book and other things like the Superboy: Hypertension storyline. And then DC published Infinite Crisis and we all have to pretend that never happened and that the multiverse was back at last.

And that's the short version of why I should rule the universe and my death squads should ride across the land thinning the herd.

I don't remember much about it, but i remember liking it. It was about Superboy traveling through the multiverse to save... something.

This page explains it better: http://www.geocities.com/hypertime2000/features/hypertension/index.html

It's worse than that, I'm afraid. The Crime Syndicate of Amerika's Antimatter Earth is not the same as the Crime Society's Earth 3. Both versions have showed up since Infinite Crisis, although never in the same story. So now we have two alternate universe evil JLAs to worry about.

Potential? Heck, I'd say it's a moral imperative.
