First--the art isn't bad at all, but MAN is it weird seeing W&TXM not drawn by Bachelo of Bradshaw.

Second--while this looks VERY interesting, I do hope this doesn't completely wreck the possibility of the two being together again in the future.

I'm not sure I remember much of any discussion of Kitty's religion, per se. I know that they've established Jewish heritage as part of her identity, and I think once she was unable to use a cross to repel Dracula because of lacking faith in it as a symbol, but I don't recall anything else off the top of my head.

Kitty has been prominently Jewish more or less since her introduction. It was the fact she WAS able to repel Dracula with a Star of David that was seen as the unusual bit, not the Crucifix not working for her.

She refers to herself as Jewish on multiple occasions, including when she gave the memorial for Larry Bodine, when she suggested that calling him a "mutie" was like calling her a... well, it's an unpleasant term for Jewishness that I don't like to repeat on s_d, just a label.

She observes various Jewish holidays and traditions, including the lighting of a candle a year after a death (as in the case of mourning Colossus).

That's what I had recalled as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if she did keep a kosher diet.

Speaking as a (somewhat) Orthodox Jew, I've always really liked how they've kept Kitty basically consistent that way. Though it seems that a bunch of writers tend to forget the fact that Jews aren't, well, christians without christ, if you follow me. I seem to recall a few points where her Judaism got glossed over.

Is Ult! Kitty still Jewish? She was established as such early on, but does anybody know if it stuck?

In addition to icon_uk's commentary below, during Excaliber's "Cross-Time Caper" event, they met 'Lightning Force' from the Naziverse. Kitty Pryde's "double" was literally a tortured ghost of a dead Shadowcat who they had burned/tattooed a Star of David on her forehead.

It was bloody well heart-breaking.

I guess you could say that a lot of the creepiness is less about Peter's personality and more that the cosmic force inside in all of them has the potential to make them removed from humanity. Scott's being able to hold himself fairly well, since he's a lot like Batman in that repression is his super-power, but not so much the others.

that would be a cool fight. They would to have unleash Bobby's full Omega level power and display all his potential.

Bobby should be the ace card of the X-Men. I mean really, he's Omega. He should be able to take down whole nations with ease. Yet we never get this. I mean, cripes, he could freeze the blood of his opponents and shatter them instantly. He could make himself 40000 ft tall, travel oceans in seconds, make copies of himself, turn into water and steam.

And at best we usually get pranks and ice slides or Bobby getting owned with poison via vagina.

yea they kind of have Bobby act as dumb as the absorbing man except bobby isn't suppose to be dumb. Just that he's afraid of his full potential iirc.
A fight between a fully powered Ice-Man vs Juggs/Phoenix powered Colossus would be up there with Franklin vs Galactus. A true cosmic level showdown. at least in my head anyways.

Pretty much... and I have to say I HATE that "Nice Guy" terminology thing.

Being a nice guy was something to aspire to be when I was growing up, it meant positive things, and I've been trying to be that ever since, having the term co opted for douchebags pisses me off to point of no longer being nice.

The sad thing is, Peter used to be a genuinely nice guy. He still sort of is -- he just has the bad luck of being part of a really badly written relationship. Having an insane reality warping brother, losing his baby sister to eldritch forces and replaced by a piece of living demonic magic that inherited her powers and form and memories but not her soul, dying to a virus he injected into himself, being constantly revived and tortured to death by aliens, becoming the new Juggernaut and forced to take Cyttorak's crap, and being dumped by Kitty (not that she didn't have reasons to do it) have all taken a toll on Peter.

I really HATE what's become of Colossus. I have a deep love for the Claremont-era X-men as they were the ones I grew up with...and to see them all become...what they now are? Ugh. Scott's a well-intentioned Nazi. Storm is...I honestly don't know, recovering-Queen, maybe? Wolverine barely resembles the character from the 1970s in some ways. Jean and Kurt are dead...at least for now. Professor X is, of course, the Most Evil Man In The World.

Alas, yes it's not a term I'd heard used as a perjorative before I came to s_d, so it lead to some confusion on my part.

Colossus I've never warmed to, perhaps since he, as an 18+ year old, glommed a romantic fixation on a girl who was 13 who was a colleague and team-mate. That never sat right with me.
