And then a fight between Apollo and Artemis vs Wonder Woman and Hermes breaks out.





Did anyone else think of Moon Tiara Action when they saw this? (Although in this case it's more along the lines of "Moon Pendant Action").

Apollo and Artemis eventually get what they came for, but that's not all!



"...I will!" Challenges Wonder Woman with lasso in hand in all its glory.

And so it begins.

I'm not sure about Hermes' agenda (she seems to trust him, but the gods are so complicated), but someone who does seem attached to her is Strife. I wonder if Strife will take a position against mommy dearest now - it would piss off Hera, which is something that would amuse her tremendously. Of course, Strife is completely untrustworthy, but that's why we love her.

My gut feeling tells me that's what she's going to end up doing if the rest of the interaction with her mother is any indication.

Yes, she sure seemed unhappy with the idea of Apollo on her father's throne. And she has stated more than once that she rather likes Diana, which makes me think that's she'll do something unpredictable that will end up helping Diana.

what i noticed about Stife is that yes, she is the personification (if not the originator) of Discord, but with her it always seems like "controlled Chaos"

in a way, she reminds me of Loki, when he is well written :D

I won't lie, I would read an entire book about nothing but Strife being... Strife and Diana being exasperated at her.

Trust me, this was hard enough to post as it was. So many great scenes in this and I didn't want to leave out the fight between The Twins and Wondy's supporting cast. It was too good. :P

I gotta say that Artemis's appearance, earlier in this issue when she had the stag horns, along with Demeter's threw me for a bit. The new 52 Greek pantheon is VERY interesting.

I honestly felt it would have made much more sense to give Artemis a crescent moon as her headpiece and her trademarked bow and arrows to better convey the fact that she's the goddess of the moon and of hunting to be quite honest. :/

I think my trouble with that is that nothing dates so quickly as being "modern"

I didn't get the impression that they were aiming for 'modern' particularly, but even if they are, that's fine. If the gods reflect modern fashions, then you just remake them as fashions change.

yeah that's what i got, not that the gods were modern, but that the gods have personalities of thier own and at the same time, adapt to the times they are in.

She did worse to Dionysus's mother, in some versions of the myth, manipulating her into forcing Zeus to reveal himself in his full glory, killing her. (You'd think at some point the Gods would stop making open ended oaths by the River Styx, but noooo).

A great issue. Love the fight scene and the appearance of Apollo and Artemis. Sun and Moon. It fits.

I'm really enjoying the series, but am I wrong or have they never actually given a reason Hera doesn't just kill Zola/the baby herself? She certainly seems powerful enough.

As I recall, major taboos against killing your family. (Zeus is Hera's brother, making the baby her niece/nephew). It's why there are so many "Leave the baby in the woods," stories, that way you're not killing it/ordering it killed yourself.

Bleh. There are times when I find Azzarello's take on the Greek gods interesting, and there are times when I just really wish he would do his damn research.

Artemis had next to nothing to do with the moon in Greek mythology. As the Roman Diana, that's a different story, but as Artemis? Pretty much zip. Apollo had some association with light and the sun, but up until the Romans he was primarily a god of prophecy, healing, music and poetry. Helios and Selene were the ones who personified the sun and the moon, respectively.

...I know, I know, this is largely me being a nitpicky myth nerd. It just irks me.

Well, who's to say the Roman and Greek gods aren't one and the same in this universe? It would hardly be the first fantasy work to take that approach.
