I can't say that it looks like the writing will be improving any time soon, but at least the pictures are pretty.



Yeah. It's been said before, but it needs to be said again: they're definitely not trying to be subtle.

Is it too cynical of me to think that part of the reason there is so much femslash in this book (not that I’m complaining) is because DC wants to make it a selling point of this book? Or maybe part of me is just worried that DC is potentially exploiting the friendship between two women in order to pander to a straight male audience, and boom! More gift-wrapped dollars. XP

I don't think it's that cynical, but more Levitz is going from the Gail Simone school of playing with the slash-fans. "Subtext? I know not of what subtext you speak."

Doves, flower petals, that kind of thing are always good signs.

I think it has more to do with Levitz then what "DC" (i.e. Didio or Harras) wants. Along with Legion (which has basically ignored the reboot) Levitz seems to be able to do what he wants in the books he writes (he IS the elder statesmen and semi-official historian of the company of the company even if he is no longer Pres and Publisher). I think Levitz is very aware of the PG and Huntress fanbases and is perhaps winking at them - perhaps as a way of keeping reader interest while he kills off this world's Helena Bertinelli (off-panel) and makes Power Girl into a completely different kind of character (not as technically smart, using people like Michael Holt to get what she wants, etc.).

As far as the art goes, part of me think Perez should have done the Flashback parts and Maguire the present-days parts. Perez's recent work (here and in the rundowns he did in Superman) seem really 80s to me (and he's capable of better - I thought his Legion of 3 Worlds a few years back stuff was epic).

Well, at least one. (Link is from a post on the InsaneJournal version of s_d from back in the day.) The first link mentions that Perez had commissioned a wrestling video from the company, Double Trouble, and was impressed enough by the results to work for them. The second link mentions something else that he did, but the link to that site is defunct.

Am i the only one who thinks the villain on the cover is looking a little like the Anti-Monitor in appearance?

I'd like this far more if the dialogue just clicked a little bit better. The 'BFF' thing was cute when it was Steph and Kara doing it, and it could've been good here, but it's phrased so awkwardly that it's weird reading it.

Also, PG has such dead, dead eyes in that bottom left panel.

She really did look like a creepy mannequin to me. I agree that it's kind of creepy . . .

Her entire look is very dated imo, in terms of aesthetics. Something about her just looks very dated.

Still not really whelmed with Levitz, but I'll happily ignore that and spend my time staring at the pretty Perez art. Especially the city.
